Streets: Know Hope (Gambia)

Another participant (also see ROA) of the Wide Open Walls project in Gambia was muralist Know Hope. The Israel-based street poet is certainly a good choice to uplift the rural area, hopefully increasing tourism by transforming the area into a living art village. While there, he painted multiple walls including one that feature a thought bubble for “residents to use as a bulletin board for messages, notes, secrets and hopes.” More photos after the jump via Unurth.

Guess who’s next up to bat for the infamous NYC wall located at the corner of Houston & Bowery? The boys that form the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured) took their swing and made their home city proud with this new mural seen above. Streets: Libya

With the death of Muammar Gaddafi and the fall of his repressive regime, there apparently has been a predictable surge in creative energy in Libya. Some of this has been seen in the increased graffiti and street art murals across the county, much of it political and decked out in red, green, and black – the colors of the new Libyan flag. Streets: Banksy x Occupy London?

What is purportedly a Banksy installation (see the TOX shoutout) has popped up at St.Paul’s Cathedral in support of the Occupy London Movement. The elusive street artist from Bristol’s alleged play on the Monopoly board game was remixed with the theme of the protests – corporate greed and corruption. We’ll see more and more artists get in the game in support of the 99% as these activists spread across the world (see original Occupy Wallstreet with Olek intervention). Streets: Steve “ESPO” Powers – A Love Letter To Brooklyn

Following up on his Love Letters to Philadelphia and Syracuse, Steve Powers most recently transformed downtown Brooklyn with his witty and endearing public art. Powers was given the walls of Macy’s department store parking garage for his project, and instead of the colorful palettes of his previous Love Letters, for BK NY, he chose black and white, reminiscent of his early days with Exterior Surface Painting Outreach. Now that Phlegm is back to his home city of Sheffield earlier than expected he has some time to work on some local walls like this new one he calls “the passage”. Also, he has used some of his extra moments to work on his new book (see the last release, the soldout Illuminated Alphabet) with several incredibly detailed new drawings. It’s time for another roundup of the new walls this week here on AM. Although not exactly immediately recent, this mural from Mesa in particular caught our eye. Other murals covered after the jump include C215 (Paris), Escif (France), Sam3 (Germany), Dabs Myla x Remi/Rough (London), Fintan Magee (Melbourne), Teo Doro (Valparaíso), Dimitris Taxis (Spain), and Isaac Cordal (Brussels).

Streets: Shepard Fairey @ ATP Festival (Asbury Park)

During Shepard Fairey’s stay in Asbury Park for his pop-up exhibition with Jonathan Levine Gallery (covered), the head of Obey also took some time to beautify the urban surroundings of the oceanfront city prior to the ATP Festival. Armed with cherry pickers and wall space as far as the eye could see, the posse set up shop for the week in spite of stormy weather to get their mission accomplished. Since the last London Street Art Roundup, Shoreditch has yet again been buzzing with activity.
