Art historian, writer and curator Hector Campbell recently sat down with British artist George Morton-Clark to discuss his introduction to the development of his artistic practice, his love for animation, artistic influences and creative collaboration. George recently teamed up with art collective and production house Fluorescent Smogg to release his latest limited edition print, released in conjunction with Mirus Gallery. Hector Campbell (HC): Your early work explored the stresses, anxieties and paranoia evident within modern society through abstracted, deconstructed portraits. How do you approach the […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (New York)

Shepard Fairey (interviewed) recently unveiled a mural featuring his iconic imagery on the rooftop of Great Bowery, a fashion and art agency collective in Manhattan. Wrapped around a water tower (one of our favorite things to see painted), the piece entitled Power & Equality was meant to celebratet the LES Girls Club and board member Rosario Dawson for everything they do in the neighborhood. The project brings things full circle for Shep as he was one of the young vandals to tag up the landmark graffiti spot back in […]

Streets: Eron // QUAI 36 (France)

A couple months ago, Eron was able to complete a striking new mural for Phase I of the QUAI 36 project in France centered just outside of Paris in Versailles. Painted in his signature sepia, the piece featuring hands grabbing and releasing doves highlighting the Italian street artist’s skill with the trompe l’oeil technique. Meant to beautify the area where the 1096 social housing units were built in the 1960s, the wall marks Eron’s first public work in France. Streets: Mark Jenkins @ Rose Beton Festival (Toulouse)

Working in Toulouse for the third Rose Beton Festival (see 2016), Mark Jenkins (interviewed) has created a duo of striking installations so far (with two more to come). Utilizing the human form, the American artist stages disconcerting urban interventions of which these first two pieces are prime examples. The first is what seems to be a girl with her face hidden by her hair hanging from a swing from the Saint Pierre bridge while the second features his signature hooded figure blending in with the statue of Pierre Goudouli at […]

Recently in Spain, Nychos completed a series of murals with a focus on skeletons for the Tatanes Project in the province of Ciudad Real. Curated by Okuda, the program seeks to promote social inclusion for people with disabilities through art by creating a public art museum of top international artists on unused silos in Porzuna. Entitled The Pillar Of Unified Love, the four part piece from the Austrian artist delves into losing the fear of death by utilizing this traditional morbid motif in a way that directs the […]

Last month, The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston invited another artist to paint a mural on the MassDOT building in Dewey Square Park.
