Streets: Shepard Fairey (New York)

Shepard Fairey (interviewed) recently unveiled a mural featuring his iconic imagery on the rooftop of Great Bowery, a fashion and art agency collective in Manhattan. Wrapped around a water tower (one of our favorite things to see painted), the piece entitled Power & Equality was meant to celebratet the LES Girls Club and board member Rosario Dawson for everything they do in the neighborhood. Streets: Eron // QUAI 36 (France)

A couple months ago, Eron was able to complete a striking new mural for Phase I of the QUAI 36 project in France centered just outside of Paris in Versailles. Painted in his signature sepia, the piece featuring hands grabbing and releasing doves highlighting the Italian street artist’s skill with the trompe l’oeil technique. Meant to beautify the area where the 1096 social housing units were built in the 1960s, the wall marks Eron’s first public work in France. Working in Toulouse for the third Rose Beton Festival (see 2016), Mark Jenkins (interviewed) has created a duo of striking installations so far (with two more to come). Recently in Spain, Nychos completed a series of murals with a focus on skeletons for the Tatanes Project in the province of Ciudad Real. Curated by Okuda, the program seeks to promote social inclusion for people with disabilities through art by creating a public art museum of top international artists on unused silos in Porzuna. Streets: Super A – “Resonance” (Boston)

Last month, The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston invited another artist to paint a mural on the MassDOT building in Dewey Square Park. Super A follows in the footsteps of Mehdi Ghanyooloo (2o16) and Os Gemeos (2012) with a pair of Barn Swallows breaking out of a glass cloch that fit perfectly in the architectural confines of the structure.
