Streets: Jen Stark – “Tunnel Vision” (Los Angeles)

Recently in Los Angeles, Jen Stark unveiled an outdoor public sculpture commissioned by the Santa Monica Cultural Affairs and curated by LeBasse Projects. Entitled Tunnel Vision, the 20ft x 5ft x 5ft installation features a cascading series of ring shapes that bring to mind her paper cut pieces when viewed directly on, utilizing the same vivid colors and familiar forms. Streets: Onejessa (Sydney)

Onejessa recently completed a rooftop mural on top of the Hibernian House in Sydney’s CBD. The piece is a larger than life reproduction of a mixed media piece from her latest collection Violent Harmonies that will be exhibited starting the 14th of March at M2 gallery. Using diverse painting techniques, the Australian artist constructs opulent assemblages of collages which are sometimes immortalized inside transparent resin. Streets: Andrew Hem (Italy)

A few months ago in Italy, Andrew Hem (interviewed) spent some time painting a stunning new mural for the Memorie Urbane. The multi-story piece created over several days in Fondi features one of his characters painted in his usual cartoonish style with what appear to be references to paintings of religious symbolism and iconography. Last July, when Shepard Fairey (featured) held an exhibition at Underdogs in Lisbon, of which Vhils (interviewed) is a cofounder, the two got together for a sweet collaborative mural (covered). This week, it’s Vhils who will be opening a show in Shep’s home base of Los Angeles and once again the two renowned street artists have pooled their efforts on a stunning new piece at Mack Sennett Studios in Silver Lake (with the support of Branded Arts). It’s been a while since our last Streets World Roundup so it was a little hard to narrow down what to share with you but we did our best. Leading things off up top is a new installation placed briefly on Wallstreet in New York by Icy an Sot. The large wadded-up $1 bill in the Financial District represents greed and volatility of capitalism according to the Iranian art duo. Traveling recently to Bhutan, Invader continued his usual practice of getting up with his signature tiled mosaic pieces in the streets. While the French street artist leaving his mark in the Buddhist Kingdom seemed to be well-received by the the locals that he encountered, his choice of placement was not without controversy. Over the weekend, the ever elusive Banksy unveiled a new piece in East Yorkshire in the city of Hull. Stenciled on what looks to be a permanently raised abandoned drawbridge, the image of a boy with a colander helmet can be seen with a cape and sword with the words DRAW THE RAISED BRIDGE! After quick stop to Amsterdam to create their contribution for an upcoming street art museum, SNIK traveled up to Manchester to paint their mural for the Cities of Hope project. Battling the unforgivingly cold rain and snow, the art duo successfully completed Serenity, the first piece from their Tributes to Hope series. With Christmas soon approaching, now would be a good time to tell you about a project from Dabs Myla that opened recently in Los Angeles. With the support of LeBasse Projects, the Australian duo created a series of installations at the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. Covering three blocks of the popular shopping & dining thoroughfare with holiday themed imagery, the two artists were able to give visitors perfect photo opportunities to remember this festive season.
