BLK River Festival ’10: Know Hope

Know Hope (interviewed), whose upcoming show in Toronto we just told you about yesterday, recently found some time again this year for the annual BLK River Festival (you may remember our coverage from last year). This beautiful mural featuring much of the Tel Aviv street artist’s signature imagery is entitled “For the Homeless Heart and Anxious Fingers” and is positioned directly opposite of a former Jewish ghetto in the second district of Vienna. The festival is still ongoing so make sure you check it out […]

Streets: Zilda

French artist Zilda (interviewed) recently visited the northwestern port de St. Catherine in his native country for some relaxation. Of course, always one to mix business with pleasure, he pasted up some of his most recent works throughout seaside locale. You’d be hardpressed to think of a better placement by any other street artist when looking at this stunning new piece on a half-sunken ship. More after the jump…

Video: ABOVE – “Because Now I’m Worth It”

When ABOVE (interviewed) spotted a sweet opportunity on the streets recently in the form of what looked like a frame on a public wall, many different options ran though his head. He finally settled on creating a piece as a play on the fact that Banksy’s street work gets taken so often by unscrupulous “collectors” and the irony of the fact that originally before Banksy’s mass appeal, he painted his popular rat image that read, “Because I’m worthless.” Read more ABOVE’s thoughts behind the piece […]

Fame Fest ’10: Slinkachu

Probably one of the last artists (see other artists here) to stop by Grottaglie before the Fame Festival opening next weekend is street miniature photographer Slinkachu. The London-based artist worked his magic with his street installations in the Italian town that would probably go unnoticed if you didn’t know where to look. Fortunately, he documents and photographs his clever works for all to enjoy. More pics after the jump…

Streets: Nick Walker’s “Cardinal Sinister” in London

It looks like Bristol stencilist Nick Walker (interviewed) was up at the crack of dawn this morning to hit up a prominent spot in London outside the Royal College of Art / Royal Albert Hall with this piece entitled “Cardinal Sinister”. Walker is bang on topic with his rendition of Pope Benedict XVI stoking a white cat à la Bond villain Blofeld, who’s arrival in the apparently “third world” UK this week has sparked tension in some and indifference in others. Britain may largely be […]

Nuart ’10: Vhils & More

It’s time for another update from Stavenger, site of the Nuart Festival. Looks like Vhils is in town now chiseling away at another masterpiece. We had only recently enjoyed his work at the fantastic Eurotrash show and the Viva La Revolucion exhibit so if you have not seen the textures of his work in person, you are missing out. Take a look at the completed M-City piece and a faraway look at the Ericailcane piece after the jump…

Streets: New Banksy x 3

Some new pieces from Banksy recently popped up on Wooster Collective yesterday at undisclosed locations although somewhere in the UK is a pretty good bet. Playing on some pretty classic themes we have come to expect from Mr. B, these street pieces with presumably no strings attached remind us of why we love the elusive street artist. More after the jump…

Nuart ’10: ROA, EVOL, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, M-City

It’s about time for another update on this year’s Nuart Festival seeing as more and more artists are getting up and around town. Along with this tremendous piece from ROA seen above (probably his largest to date), EVOL, Alexandros Vasmoulakis, and M-City have also been sighted.  Take a look at all the pics after the jump…

Fame Fest ’10: Escif

Angelo, mastermind behind Studiocromie and the Fame Festival, has seen his fair share of street artists and their work. So, when he’s impressed with the level of addiction a certain artist has to painting walls, you know that’s saying something. The latest artist to roll through Grottaglie is the Spain-based Escif, whose prolific work we are sure you are familiar with by now. More after the jump…

Streets: Specter – “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts”

Usually, messing with another artist’s work is considered poor form, but perhaps not so with a recent project by Specter. “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts” sees the New York based artist rehabilitate and give fresh life to distressed and dissed street works from artists we are all familiar with. Check out his subtle touch on this Faile (featured) piece above and the Swoon (interviewed) piece after the jump, but also take a look at the before and after pics of these and other examples on his website.
