Streets: David Choe in LA

Looks like David Choe (featured) has been plastering the streets of Los Angeles in preparation for his solo show (teased) in the City of Angels at the end of April. “Nothing to Declare” will be put on by Lazarides in Beverly Hills in a special space and rumors are Choe’s show won’t be the only show hosted in that location before all is said and done. Update: Banksy vs. Robbo

Based on pictures from Robbo and his crew, it looks like they have gone and modified more Banksy pieces, warping their meanings. If you remember this all started in Camden with a stencil Banksy put up over a vintage Robbo tag, with the ensuing retaliation (here & here) from Robbo. Not sure how long the graffiti artists plans to continue defacing pieces from Banksy, but it seems a little much now… More images after the jump…

Streets: D*Face x Oscars

UK street artist D*Face (featured) recently stopped by Los Angeles to install some well-timed “Zombie Oscar Statues” last week. The two seven foot sculptures were installed in two locations – atop Runyon Canyon and in the parking lot of the famous Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood near where the 82nd annual Academy Awards (Oscars) were being held at the Kodak Theatre. Streets: Below Las Vegas with Logan Hicks

Inspired by Matt O’Brien’s book “Beneath the Neon – Life and Death in the Las Vegas Tunnels”, Logan Hicks (interviewed) recently took an interesting look at the massive system of drainage tunnels underneath the city of sin. Portions of the more than 300 miles of subterranean passageways are covered in graffiti and the feel of the place kind of reminds us of the underground work of Brazilian street artist Zezao. It looks like Swoon (Interviewed) recently visited Philadelphia and gifted the city of brotherly love with some of her street pieces. In town for Philagrafika 2010, the city’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art, Swoon’s wheatpastes blended in nicely with the snowy landscape. Streets: TrustoCorp in New York City

TrustoCorp, who we last saw in Los Angeles and Miami, has recently hit up New York City with a fresh batch of newly modified street signs. Now implementing government-grade reflective vinyl in all their work, TrustoCorp’s latest campaign blends in almost seamlessly with the urban landscape, yet still maintains enough of a presence to be noticed by the NY Post. Word on the street is that TrustoCorp will be heading to San Francisco next, stay tuned!

A new piece from Gaia recently went up around North Ave and Pennsylvania in Baltimore. Continuing his biblical-themed series of work, “St John” appears to combine a variant of his “Deny Me Three Times” rooster with the beheaded John the Baptist (not sure how Peter’s denial of Jesus relates to the beheading of Jesus’ cousin, but we’ll ask Gaia the next time we see him).
