Jeff Soto and Maxx242 in Luxembourg

Last month, Jeff Soto (interviewed) along his friend and fellow artist Maxx242 headed to Luxembourg for the Goodbye Monopol 2 event. Monopol was a much loved market chain that closed down a few years ago so organizers invited artists (some others were all ten of The Weird Crew, The London Police, Eyes-B, and Mr. X) to paint the old headquarters. Take a look below at some of the indoor and outdoor murals collaborated on as well as worked on separately. Discuss Jeff Soto here.

For those who were busy over the weekend, here is a summary of the latest Banksy pieces for his Better Out Than In art residency in New York. In addition to street stencils, Mr. B also blessed the Big Apple with more “performance art” with a truck filled with animated stuffed animals heading for the slaughter house (see video below). Not long after finishing his big installation at Rice University Art Gallery, prolific artist Gaia is back on the streets focusing on a new mural in Kingston, NY for the O+ Festival, a very unique event in which artists exchange their contributions for health and wellness services from art-loving doctors, dentists, and other medical providers. On his recent travels around the world, Chinese born artist DALeast (interviewed) stopped recently in Malaga, Spain, to leave his mark for the Malaga Maus project. Always up for pushing his work and technique, the artist decided not to place his mural on a flat wall, but used the architectural challenges of the place. Faith47 recently dropped one of her most iconic murals to date in the quaint town of Tudela De Navarra at the fourth annual Avant Garde Urbano Festival (also see our coverage of Vhils’ piece). In an area of Spain that is heavily influenced by Catholicism, she appropriately integrated a piece depicting a strong likeness to the Virgin Mary entitled saturation.incubation.illumination. As we mentioned last month, JR (interviewed) is returning to London after five years with a two-part solo exhibition, ACTIONS, at Lazarides Rathbone and multiple sites across the capital. The Inside / Out photobooth truck showed up last week and Londoners’ black and white portraits were pasted alongside the Somerset House.
