After presenting The Big Easy with her stunning Thalassa installation at the New Orleans Museum of Art in June, Swoon (interviewed) is moving on to her next project.  On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, The Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston (ICA) has commissioned the Brooklyn-based artist to create an installation for the Sandra and Gerald Fineberg Art Wall. Videos: Cai Guo-Qiang – “1040M Underground” @ Izolyatsia (Ukraine)

Just this past weekend, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang opened his newest solo show at Izolyatsia, the  new art center in the industrial city of Donetsk, Ukraine. Entitled 1040M Underground, the new body of work was inspired by the explosive artist’s visit to the coal and salt mines (1040 meters below ground) of Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region. Os Gemeos for Back2Black Festival (Brazil)

It looks like the twins are back in their home country after showing in Los Angeles, Italy, and Germany. As usual, when Osgemeos get involved in a project, they like to go big. This “balloon head” installation, something we have never seen before, was put together for the Back2Black Festival (August 27-29) in Rio de Janeiro featuring, music, art, discussion, debate, expositions, culture and shows that showcase all the influences of African culture in Brazil. This past weekend, Thinkspace Gallery unveiled a new exhibit by couple and Australian artists Dabs Myla. Featuring a collection of 3d objects, sketches and paintings, the show was packed from the start and offered the visitors a visual eye feast. A couple Fridays ago, Orange County was treated to a captivating installation by James Marshal aka Dalek (interviewed) at the Hurley Space Gallery.
