Openings: Brusk – ‘In Memoriam’ @ Galerie Laurent Strouk

Street artist Brusk from the Da Mental Vaporz crew has returned to Paris for a exhibition entitled In Memoriam at Galerie Laurent Strouk that runs until July 15th, his second solo show (see Ad Vitam Eternam coverage here) in Paris. As you will see, the front sign ‘Matignon’ has been cheekily stroked through with black spray paint while highlighting the letters ART in the Gallery name. Combining a Fine Arts background with more than twenty years of graffiti, Brusk’s gestural painting is instantly recognizable. The French artist creates questions, variations, wanderings through a poetic fantasy, […]

Installation: Pejac – “Nature First”

Nature First is the title of the latest action by Pejac, revealed the other day via his official website. This installation once again shows his ability to work with different mediums while passing on a strong, important message. Like most of his works, this intervention speaks about environmental issues – the over-exploitation of natural resources, namely cutting down trees for human need. Playing with the idea of the surreal and familiar, the Spanish artist placed a children’s slide inside a forest in Olot just outside Gerona, […]

Streets: Splash and Burn (Sumatra)

Over the course of last couple of months, Ernest Zacharevic and a select of group of artists and activists have visited Sumatra and created public works and installations in effort to raise the awareness about the devastating effects of the booming unregulated farming practices of Palm Oil in Indonesia. After almost two years of planning, the Splash and Burn project that was fully self founded and self organized by the Lithuanian artist and his team, has been shared with the public and the results are impressive to […]

Streets: Jeff Koons – “Seated Ballerina” @ Rockefeller Center

At the Rockefeller Center in New York, Jeff Koons has just revealed a new 45 foot inflatable sculpture entitled Seated Ballerina. The American sculptor’s third piece to be displayed at the NYC landmark is intended to “conveys optimism and a sense of potential for the future” while bringing awareness to National Missing Children’s Month as well as the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC). Created in conjunction with Art Production Fund and Kiehl’s, the American cosmetics brand will be donate to the ICMEC some of the proceeds (up to $100,000) from […]

Previews: Daniel Arsham – “Crystal Toys” @ Galerie Perrotin (Seoul)

On May 25th, the Seoul branch of Galerie Perrotin will be opening a new solo show from Daniel Arsham entitled Crystal Toys. Continuing his unique practice of creating “future relics”, the American artist looks to be taking his work in a more whimsical direction for this exhibition, focusing his technique on childhood toys. Using different materials like ash, amethyst, selenite, and quartz, Arsham has as usual created sculptures of how he envisions modern day objects would look like if they were discovered many many years […]
