Basel Week Miami ’15 / Showing: SCOPE

One of the first satellite fairs we hit during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE Miami, situated nicely in their pavilion on the beach off Ocean Drive. Celebrating its 15th anniversary edition with 120 international exhibitors from 22 countries and 57 cities, the fair had something for everyone including this Suck Face bronze from D*Face seen above and the Felipe Pantone installation seen directly below. On the 1st of December, YoungArts Foundation hosted a book release, signing, and exhibition by Daniel Arsham, one of the events surrounding Basel Week Miami. Fictional Archaeology is the NY-based artist’s latest book with the first copies signed and sold to visitors of his current show in Miami, The Future Was Written. Including some 2,000 chalk objects, typical Arsham future artifacts, this interactive exhibition invites visitors to use them to leave their own cave drawings or hieroglyphics. Streets: Jun Ong – “Star” // Urban Xchange (Malaysia)

After sharing with you the murals Sabek & DALeast painted for the Urban Xchange event in Malaysia, here is now a look at an artist that went in a completely different direction. The five story high lighting installation shaped like a star from architect Jun Ong is situated in an unfinished concrete building and required five hundred meters of steel cables and LED strips. Every year, three critics under 40 choose three artists under 40 to show at the MAR Museum of Art in Ravenna, Italy as part of the annual Critica In Arte exhibition (opening tonight, November 28th). Fans of the twins attending Basel Week Miami next week should add visiting the Tiroche Deleon Collection to their itinerary. Sem Titulo (Untitled) is a sculptural installation piece from Os Gemeos that features a giant head mounted on the chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle and brings to life something seen earlier in their Serenade painting.
