On the 1st of December, YoungArts Foundation hosted a book release, signing, and exhibition by Daniel Arsham, one of the events surrounding Basel Week Miami. Fictional Archaeology is the NY-based artist’s latest book with the first copies signed and sold to visitors of his current show in Miami, The Future Was Written. Including some 2,000 chalk objects, typical Arsham future artifacts, this interactive exhibition invites visitors to use them to leave their own cave drawings or hieroglyphics. From sneakers, electronic gadgets to sport equipment and pilot helmets, the […]

Streets: Jun Ong – “Star” // Urban Xchange (Malaysia)

After sharing with you the murals Sabek & DALeast painted for the Urban Xchange event in Malaysia, here is now a look at an artist that went in a completely different direction. The five story high lighting installation shaped like a star from architect Jun Ong is situated in an unfinished concrete building and required five hundred meters of steel cables and LED strips. The stunning geometric work lodged in the unused structure in Butterworth is inspired by the term “glitch,” or error in the system, which can […]

Upcoming: Slinkachu @ MAR Museum of Art

Every year, three critics under 40 choose three artists under 40 to show at the MAR Museum of Art in Ravenna, Italy as part of the annual Critica In Arte exhibition (opening tonight, November 28th). This year, Slinkachu was chosen by Davide Caroli to put on display a selection of photographs documenting his work on the streets staging clever scenes with his miniatures, like the one seen above created in Moscow in 2012 entitled All Alone. The UK-based artist will also be unveiling a new installation which you can see him […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Os Gemeos // Tiroche Deleon Collection @ Mana Wynwood

Fans of the twins attending Basel Week Miami next week should add visiting the Tiroche Deleon Collection to their itinerary. Sem Titulo (Untitled) is a sculptural installation piece from Os Gemeos that features a giant head mounted on the chassis of a Volkswagen Beetle and brings to life something seen earlier in their Serenade painting. The complex work from the Brazilian street art duo was first seen in a series of Vertigem exhibitions (like at CCBB Brasilia) and now will be on view at Mana Wynwood along with other […]

Goldfish Salvation, Riusuke Fukahori’s second solo show with the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will be opening on November 19th. Featuring his favorite subjects made obvious by the title of the show, the Japanese artist has prepared his signature three-dimensional acrylic and resin paintings of goldfish including his largest work-to-date. Through an exhaustive process, each piece is built up layer by layer while observing his fish companions held in dozens of tanks and bowls around his Yokohama studio. Along with these instantly recognizable works, he […]

Head over to the online store at 9:00 AM (GMT) to add this to your […]

Previews: Gil Batle – “Hatched In Prison” @ Ricco/Maresca

On November 5th, Hatched In Prison will open at Ricco/Maresca in New York, a testament to the long road Gil Batle has traveled and where art has taken him. Born and raised in San Francisco to Filipino parents, he has been in and out of five California prisons for eight years over a twenty year period. While incarcerated, the self-taught artist’s drawing ability and eventual tattooing skills shielded him from the murderous gang violence that ran rampant behind bars. Now living on a small island in the Philippines, Batle has […]

Previews: Isaac Cordal – “Urban Inertia” @ C.O.A. Gallery

C.O.A. Gallery in Montreal will be opening a solo show by Isaac Cordal on October 29th. The Spanish artist is currently adding final touches to Urban Inertia, an installation that will continue the public interventions he has been working on around the city in the last few weeks. Cordal is known for his small cement, now resin, sculptures that he places in cracks in the walls, puddles, sidewalks, rooftops, and other nooks and crannies in the urban environment. These small character based installations often symbolize the suicidal spiral of […]
