Openings: Scott Hove – “Master of Rapacity” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco opened a new show from Scott Hove entitled Master of Rapacity. Featuring his signature faux cake sculptural works, the exhibition was thematically based on what one would see in the house of a corporate bigwig’s house. Hove states: “America is currently undergoing a very decisive and quiet transition to corporate oligarchy, the government becoming more and more acquiescent to corporate policy. Corporate policy is by nature rapacious, and could not give a fuck about nature or your feelings. […]

Previews: Mars-1 – “Toward A Distant Dawn” @ Martha Otero Gallery

This Saturday night (June 7th), the Martha Otero Gallery in Los Angeles will be hosting a solo show from Mars-1 (featured) entitled Toward A Distant Dawn. On display will be a new body of work featuring the Bay Area-based artist’s paintings of otherworldly imagery informed by cosmology, mathematics, altered states of consciousness, science,  among other things. This can be seen in the patterns, geometric-organic structures, and use of color gradients that are prevalent in Martinez’ work. Rounding the show will be a series of sculptural musings […]

Showing: Jessica Harrison – “Flash” @ Galerie LJ

Earlier this month, Jessica Harrison presented her first solo show in Paris at Galerie L.J. entitled Flash, a reference to tattoos which ties her new body of work together thematically. On display were a series that the Scottish artist is perhaps best known for, her play on classic porcelain figurines. For this particular group of sculptures, she has added body ink to the bodies of these ceramic ladies, surprising the viewer by altering something that is familiar. Rounding out the exhibition are also a series of three […]

Openings: “Mr Freeze – Nite & Day” (Toulouse)

For the second year running, the association Faute O Graff is curating Mister Freeze, an exhibition featuring small gallery artworks to large scale installations until June 1st. This year, the show is taking place in two abandonned places –  Le Frigo (“The Fridge”) where the first exhibition took place in 2013 with small scale artworks, and large scale installations in a secret place, revealed at the last minute. For this new episode of Mister Freeze – Nite & Day, street and graffiti artists are playing on both […]

Showing: Jacob Hashimoto – “Gas Giant” @ MOCA

After providing you with a sneak peak setup look at Jacob Hashimoto’s MOCA Pacific Design Center installation, we are happy to be able to share images of the finished Gas Giant exhibition. The massive work seemingly alters the cube-like interior space of the PDC venue into a immersive, sublime, and otherworldly experience. Using traditional kite-making techniques and thousands of thin paper sheets attached to supports and string, the artist painstakingly collages the components into a sculptural environment whose whole definitely exceeds the sum of it […]

Openings: Souther Salazar & Tobias Fike – “Today is the Day” & “Then and Now and Then” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Forsaking his adopted hometown of Portland for several weeks, Souther Salazar traveled to Denver in order to bring a new installation to life at the David B. Smith Gallery. Working onsite, he created a snow covered landscape full of sloth like creatures ensnared in conflict with a thin tongued beast rising out of a colorful pool. Titled Today is the Day, it includes all of the signature Salazar elements including his color palate and the feeling of boundless imagination. Despite the violent motif, the piece […]

Previews: Jessica Harrison – “FLASH” @ Galerie L.J.

This Thursday in Paris, May 15th, Galerie L.J. will be presenting the sculptural works of Jessica Harrison, her first solo exhibition in the French capital. Known for her way of twisting classical porcelain figurines (last seen by us in 2001) in unexpected ways with her artistic vision, the Scottish sculptor’s series of work set to be put on display will be no different. FLASH will see Harrison add tattoos to her delicate ladies, with the title of course referencing this fact. We look forward to seeing the […]
