Recently, the James Cohan Gallery hosted Trenton Doyle Hancock‘s show, appropriately titled …And Then It All Came Back To Me. This is an incredible body of work, and as timing sometimes goes, brought out the ‘best of the best’ in the post Sandy NYC Chelsea arts district. Last weekend, AM stopped by San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery to check out opening of Lamplighter to the Promised Land that features AJ Fosik’s latest wooden sculptures. We visited Fosik a few weeks back at his Portland studio while he was preparing for the show (which can be viewed here). With this exhibition, he created sculptures to portray creatures in a glorified manner that challenges the concept of belief as a virtue – in other words, they are trippy/bad-ass beasts. Doktor A – “Postcard from New Yorkshire” @ MPH

From his beginnings as one of the most highly sought after art toy customizers out there, the UK-based Doktor A has progressed to producing his own sculptural creations, which was only natural if anyone has ever seen his work. For his recent showing in New York at My Plastic Heart, entitled Postcard from New Yorkshire, his full talents were on display with figures created in his robotic steampunk aesthetic with a fine attention to detail. On Friday night (November 16th), Kozyndan will be returning to Canada for an exhibition entitled Breaking Circles, Broken Light at the Narwhal Gallery in Toronto. Included in the exhibition are 25 paintings, 6 ceramic sculptures and 3 resin sculptures all based on various endangered animals in a more experimental show for the husband and wife duo where they try all kinds of new mediums. Officially opening their doors just hours ago, Galerie Perrotin in Paris unveiled all new works from the NY-based KAWS in his highly anticipated solo Imaginary Friends. Highlights of the show included multiples of his running chum canvases (also replicated as showcards making a nice souvenir) as well as creatively-shaped irregular piece that appeared to be mirrored in a more conventional painting right next to it – leading to an interesting side by side comparison. Currently at the two locations of the Lisson Gallery in London, Anish Kapoor has gathered a comprehensive collection of his recent works for a showing that will run through November 10th. After bringing you photos of Yue Minjun’s showing of his new silkscreen works on display at Harbour City in Hong Kong, we head outside to check out the new sculptural installation. Displayed at the forecourt of Ocean Terminal, the five new sculptures that utilize his iconic “silly man” imagery and is inspired by inspired by Lao Zi’s 6th century classical text on Taoism known as Tao Te Ching.
