It looks like KAWS is back in Texas for an encore after a successful showing there at the end of last year. If you remember, the Focus:KAWS exhibition was held at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in December of 2011. Currently showing at the Known Gallery in Los Angeles through this weekend are the works of Steven Harrington. Insideout is the first exhibition held in his hometown of Los Angeles since 2009 from the artist and designer, also known for co-founding both the design agency National Forest and pop-art brand You&I. After sharing with you works from Vhils and Liqen for this year’s Walk & Talk Festival, we turn our attention to the contributions of Mark Jenkins (interviewed) and Sandra Fernandez. The two artists decided to create some whimsical tape sculptures “riding” down to the ocean for the annual event held on the Archipelago of the Azores in Portugal. The Washington State-based artist uses animal forms as a study on human psychology and the unconscious impulses of the human mind. She states – “On the surface, these figures are simply feral animals suspended in a moment of tension. Our friend and Hawaiian native Nicole Naone recently made her debut solo at Honolulu’s Human Imagination. Entitled Mass, the exhibition gives us a look at the classic female form through subtle compositions which Nicole hand molded in foam and plaster. Diverse in her mediums, we also caught sight of smooth illustrations and sculptures cast in bronze. A very sweet debut showcasing what the full time artist & part time model has achieved since we last time we saw her at this year’s POW WOW.
