Showing: Friends With You – “Happy Rainbow” @ TMTP Cultural Center

It’s always nice to see concept images become reality – with FriendsWithYou’s exhibition in Hong Kong being no exception. The new installation from the Miami-based duo entitled Happy Rainbow opened to the public recently at the TMTP Cultural Center to the delight of their fans there. The inflatable bouncing installations as well as fiberglass, plush and resin sculptures are always a hit with the younger crowd but certainly was fun for all ages. Via Designboom. Jen Stark for “40 Under 40: Craft Futures” @ Smithsonian

Expert paper sculpture artisan Jen Stark recently had one of her pieces acquired by the Smithsonian American Art Museum for their permanent collection. The psychedelic multicolored piece which looks like it is dripping down the wall is entitled Power of Being and is part of the 40 Under 40: Craft Futures exhibition currently underway at the Renwick Gallery part of the institution which also includes a piece from Olek (mentioned earlier). Last week, New York’s New Museum opened a new exhibition entitled Ghost in the Machine. The survey contains over 140 works of art by over 70 artists which explore the relationship between humans, machines and art. Taking over all three main gallery rooms, it providee a unique look at the digital age and its influence/interaction on the artistic movement. Openings: Skullphone – “London, XX12” @ Ivory & Black

A couple weeks ago, the Ivory & Black in London opened their Skullphone showing entitled London, XX12. Featuring a new body of work created with his special technique utilizing dots and layered clear coats, the continuing series initially looks like digital LEDs from a distance – a reference to the street artist’s claim to fame – his digital billboard takeovers. Also included were some sculptures based on molds of his feet as well as some associated items. Discuss Skullphone here.

Sculptor and photographer Jason deCaires Taylor recently made his premiere at Jonathan Levine Gallery with a solo exhibition entitled Human Nature. The British born artist who grew up with the coral reefs of Malaysia is known for taking his talents of altering environments to the ocean. Utilizing specialized PH neutral materials, Jason creates cement based sculptures and lays them in nature’s aquatic settings to create artificial reefs.
