Mark Ryden for the World Wildlife Fund

Gifted painter Mark Ryden recently created an exquisite new piece entitled Queen Bee. For those interested, the painting will go to a benefit auction for the World Wildlife Fund coming up this May. Also, fans in Los Angeles can expect a show from the low brow luminary soon, hopefully some time this year at the Michael Kohn Gallery to be entitled The Gay 90’s: West. Discuss Mark Ryden here.

The untimely recent passing of Justin Van Hoy has had an huge impact on the artistic community he was associated with. Studio Visit / Auction: RETNA

Over the weekend, AM was invited to a special event presented by New Image Art & Robert Galstian at RETNA’s (featured) studio timed nicely to coincide with the Art Los Angeles Contemporary. Singapore-based Chandran Gallery will officially be opening its San Francisco gallery later in the year, after some needed renovations to its building. Charity: Lucy McLauchlan Auction for Sound It Out

Lucy McLauchlan just set up an installation at 48Sheet Gallery in Birmingham to benefit Sound It Out: a charity that strives to bring support and opportunities in music to deprived people in Birmingham and the West Midlands. This is part of the Tambourine Project in which artists and celebrities (which includes Ricky Gervais, Raymond Briggs, Helen Mirren, Stephen Fry, Eric Clapton and Log Roper) were asked to doodle on the instrument and have them auctioned off on Ebay (listings can be seen: here).
