New Image Art’s lineup for this year’s Art Basel Week looks sharp and could be one of the more anticipated offerings at 2010’s art extravaganza in Miami. Headlined by Osgemeos, who have been holed up at Retna’s studio working on new paintings, the list of artists will also include Judith Supine, Cleon Peterson, Skullphone, and Albert Reyes as well as a special installation piece entitled “Now I Remember” that will feature the work of Neck Face among many others. Cafeina December 1 – December 5, […]

Preview: Basel Week Miami ’10: Sanrio 50th Anniversary Show

Fresh off the clamoring success of Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary bash in Southern California, Small Gift Los Angeles (covered), the art exhibition and pop-up store tag team celebration will be traveling down to South Beach next week to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach. As the cornerstone of the touring event, 50 internationally-recognized artists were selected by curator R. Preview: Basel Week Miami ’10 – Matthew Palladino @ Baer Ridgway Exhibitions

To coincide with this years Art Basel Miami Beach, San Francisco-based Baer Ridgway Exhibitions will be showing a new body of work from enigmatic contemporary artist Matthew Palladino during the New Art Dealers Alliances (NADA) Art Fair. Earlier this year, Palladino made waves with his groundbreaking sold-out solo exhibition, Wonder Box (covered), which showcased the artist’s wonderfully warped visual language executed with near surgeon-like technical precision. With an aesthetic that loosely pays homage to the Bay Area’s Mission School movement, yet in a decidedly more […]

Openings: Frieze Art Fair 2010 – Part II

We saw a lot at Frieze and we have to note that every fair we’ve been to Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin never fails to make in impact with their bold exhibits. Amongst the bustle we caught impressive works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Aya Takano, Tracy Emin, David La Chapelle and even a surprise appearance by Faile.

Basel Week Miami ’10: “The Sticker Wall” @ Wynwood Walls

We recently showed you images of Shepard Fairey down in Miami installing his mural inside this year’s Wynwood Walls cafe (covered). Well, more images have just surfaced from the Wynwood Walls project, courtesy of legendary street photographer Martha Cooper. Apparently, right next to Shepard’s wall will be one organized by “Stickers: Stuck-Up Piece of Crap” authors DB Burkeman and Monica LoCascio. The “Sticker Wall,” which officially launches during Art Basel Miami 2010, will be a place where artists and the general public can celebrate sticker […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Shepard Fairey @ Wynwood Walls

What’s Basel week without our friend Shepard Fairey? Fortunately, we don’t have to find out this year. He’s already down in Miami installing his mural inside the Wynwood Walls cafe with imagery including “Peace Elephant” and “Mujer Fatal”.  More image of the completed mural after the jump…

Openings: Frieze Art Fair 2010 – Part I

Like Basel week for Switzerland and Armory week for New York, London has a signature week for art and it’s centralized around the Frieze Art Fair. This year, AM made the trip out to catch the well produced affair which was overwhelming in the amount of art displayed. Like most major art fairs, we needed to go back after day one to soak in more visual goodness. On our first pass, we stumbled on some notable works from George Condo, fresh photos from Ryan McGinley and a new direction from […]

Frieze 2010: David Shrigley with Stephen Friedman Gallery

One of the highlights of our Frieze visit was stumbling upon the Stephen Friedman Gallery booth. As an unexpected surprise to us, the entire booth had been dedicated to an installation of David Shrigley’s work. Better still, David walked into the compound whilst we were there and started applying his temporary tattoos to a select few fans who had pre-registered – if only we were more on the ball then AM would be rocking some Shrigley ink of our own. Check out some of our […]

Frieze 2010: Marcel Dzama

To continue our focus on some of the most enjoyable elements of the Frieze Art Fair, we were drawn in to a room within David Zwirner’s booth dedicated to an installation of works by Marcel Dzama. A full sized hooded mannequin, complete with rifle, pirouetted in the centre of the room and drew voyeurs into a world of wonder from Dzama. Alongside the kinetic sculpture were a series of intricately detailed dioramas. One can only imagine the amount of time that went into each of […]
