“Hello and Goodbye” (featured) the latest body of work from Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) opened this past Saturday at LeBasse Projects. The show featured some of Yamamoto’s largest paintings to date and the level of detail and techniques employed by Yoskay for these new pieces clearly show his artistic growth since his last solo. Openings: Mars-1 @ Billy Shire Fine Arts

AM stopped by Billy Shire Fine Arts to catch Mars-1’s latest show. Hot off his last show “Nuclear Mystics” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Mars-1 continued his direction of creating larger pieces that capture the grand-scale feeling his imagery evokes. The show also featured new resin statues in a color we did not see at his last show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Check out all the detailed pics after the jump.

Last night, the artist community and fans were out in full force for the opening of Travis Louieâ€™s (interviewed) “Strange Grooming Habits” at the Bergamot Station. For this show at Copro Gallery, Louie dressed up the bizarre denizens of his imagination in stately garb and painted them in his signature style of emulating vintage photography from the Victorian era. Ron English’s latest solo show at Elms Lesters opened this past Friday with the UK crowd bustling to get a glimpse of the Jersey-based artist’s latest body of work. Ron’s mastery of both indoor and outdoor techniques were clearly represented in this latest series. Openings: Damon Soule – “Same Loud No” @ Fecal Face

Fresh off his “Amused Loon” show last October at Joshua Liner, Damon Soule returns to his former stomping grounds with a new body of work. Entitled “Same Loud No“, Soule’s triumphant return to the Bay Area (his last show was in ’06) boasts a bevy of geometrics, prime numbers, acid casualties and other-worldy existence. AM swung by the Fecal Face Gallery on opening day, check out the pictures after the jump.

Japanese artist Usugrow, best known for his collaborative projects with Upper Playground and Vans, debuted his latest project “Shinganist” at FIFTY24SF last night. Featuring the paintings, sculpture and drawing of Bene, Mozyskey, Toshikazu Nozaka and Jun Kaneko, “Shinganist” is an intriguing look into the work of some of Japan’s up-and-coming young artists. Last night, the Carmichael GalleryÂ in Hollywood pulled no punches with their all-star show, “Get Rich Quick!,” showcasing the strongest talents in the street and urban art genre. Some scorching hot pieces lined the gallery’s walls for the exhibition, including: a rare BanksyÂ canvas, a KAWS ad disruption, boxes and screen-printed collages fromÂ Faile, to originals by Barry McGeeÂ and Micallef and much more. Audrey Kawasaki’s (interviewed) show “Watching Shadows” or “Kageboushi” opened last night at the Space Yui Gallery in Japan. The exhibition included some of her signature paintings of dreamy-eyed girls, who have a sense of innocence, yet paradoxically possess a touch of sensuality as well. This past weekend, Logan Hicks and Broken Crow (Mike Fitzsimmons & John Grider) opened their “drive-by” show “Broken Horse” for a packed Brooklyn house. Held in a unique venue that once housed the Hamilton Savings & Loan, the art was really the draw. Utilizing an intricate stenciling process, Logan was able to create scenic snapshots of some of the coolest urban landscapes we’ve seen from a stencil artist. AM’s whirlwind Los Angeles art show weekend capped off with a trip to New Image Art for the â€œOcto Pussesâ€ group exhibition, which featured the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face.
