As previously announced in his recent interview, British artist Carl Cashman, opened his new solo show at Prescription Art Gallery in Brighton on the 6th of June. Titled Neometry: New work by Carl Cashman, the exhibition is a sort of a follow up to last year’s sold out success in US (covered), showing a new body of geometry-based, neon color artworks. Aside from releasing a limited edition print, painting the outside of the gallery, installing the works within the space, the artist also presented this unique show in two ways – under […]

Openings: Franco “Jaz” Fasoli – “Vinculo” @ BC Gallery

Argentinian based artist Franco Fasoli aka JAZ opened a solo show at BC Gallery in Berlin on June 6th. Titled Vinculo, this exhibition is a continuation of the successful collaboration between the gallery and the artist. The paintings created for this show are “defined by the tensions of ambivalence,” and instead of showing his signature anamorphic imagery, are “divided” into animalistic and humanoid ones. Focused on the powerful and aggressive appearance of the animals, especially wild cats, and violent behavior of humans, Fasoli created a series of complementing works.  The […]

Openings: Scott Hove – “Master of Rapacity” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Last weekend, Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco opened a new show from Scott Hove entitled Master of Rapacity. Featuring his signature faux cake sculptural works, the exhibition was thematically based on what one would see in the house of a corporate bigwig’s house. Hove states: “America is currently undergoing a very decisive and quiet transition to corporate oligarchy, the government becoming more and more acquiescent to corporate policy. Corporate policy is by nature rapacious, and could not give a fuck about nature or your feelings. […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey – “Power & Glory” @ The Halsey

After bringing you an early in studio glance at Shepard Fairey’s new body of work, it’s time to look at the opening at The Halsey, where the new pieces were put on display alongside a new show of Jasper John’s work. Power & Glory featured a celebration as well as a political critique of Americana and the decline of the “American Dream,” kind of a duality of where he shows an appreciation for the iconography but also provides satire. Of course, fans of is work will […]

Openings: D*Face – “Honestly Dishonest” @ Above Second

During Basel HK week, another major show we hit was from British artist D*Face (interviewed) at Hong Kong’s Above Second Gallery. D put together layers of the commercial output which bombard our minds on a daily basis, creating something new and different in and of itself. The sold out show was filled with Basel week attendees and fans. Next, we’ll bring you some of the outdoor murals he created while he was in town. Discuss D*Face here.

Openings: Ryan McGinness – “Figure Drawings” @ Pace Prints

Ryan McGinness is back at Pace Prints after a seven year hiatus, but to say he’s been busy since would be an understatement. The New York-based artist, whose work stems primarily from skate and design culture has gone on to massive acclaim in that seven year stint, from further exploring his skate influences with the MOMA to his explosive show in the last days of Deitch Projects and let’s not forget all the projects in between. His latest solo show, humbly titled Figure Drawing, is way beyond just that, and without question continues to […]
