Previews: James Jean – “Azimuth” @ Kaikai Kiki Gallery

After an earlier peek at the exquisite stain glass works for James Jean’s (interviewed) solo opening tomorrow night (April 6th) in Tokyo at Kaikai Kiki Gallery, here are some more tantalizing looks at the new body of work entitled Azimuth. Seen above is one of the pieces from the show, Schrödinger’s Kitten Rescue, which will also be offered in a corresponding print release tomorrow. Showing: Michael Kagan – “We Have Felt The Ground Shake” @ Bill Brady Gallery

Last month, Bill Brady in Miami opened a solo exhibition from Michael Kagan (featured) entitled We Have Felt The Ground Shake. For his first showing with the gallery, the Brookyln-based artist presented a new selection of his signature astronaut paintings, rendered with a loose touch. This time around, Kagan focuses in on the Apollo astronauts, specifically those that touched down on the moon with some of the paintings taking the names of spacemen depicted. Previews: Michael Lau – “COLLECT THEM ALL!” @ Christie’s (Hong Kong)

Starting on April 11th, Christie’s in Hong Kong will be showing a series of new works from Michael Lau entitled COLLECT THEM ALL! The selling exhibition from what many consider to be the godfather of the art toy figures will features paintings as well as sculptures, most of them with his familiar characters as the central focus. Following up on the introduction of his Postneocubism body of work in Paris last June (covered), Miguel Ángel Belinchón aka Belin recently opened his Asian debut show with Amanda Wei Gallery in Hong Kong. Fazes features a new series of canvases done in the Spanish artist’s signature style, along with new pieces introducing more drawing-based, abstract pieces. As one of the more well-known hyper-realistic graffiti artists, Belin started composing postneocubism works after visiting Picasso’s museum in Malaga. Tonight (March 31st) in New York, Last Rites Gallery will be opening the debut solo show from the Sweden-based Miles Johnston entitled Interoception. Combining a fascination for Escher-like visual illusions and a darker grotesque sensibility, the instructor at the Swedish Academy of Realist Art will be presenting an intriguing collection of oil on linen paintings and graphite on paper drawings. Releases: Nychos – “Translucent Hare” Print

It looks like Nychos just dropped a new print entitled Translucent Hare, which is appropriate at this time seeing as Easter is coming up. The 24 x 24 inch giclee print features one of the anatomic dissections the Austrian streets artist is known for. Basel Week HK ’18 / Showing: Yoshitomo Nara – “Ceramic Works and…” @ Pace Gallery

A couple days ago, during Basel Week Hong Kong, Pace Gallery inaugurated its second gallery in Hong Kong (12/F H Queen’s 80 Queen’s Road Central) with an exhibition by Yoshitomo Nara entitled Ceramic Works and… As the title suggests, the center of the new space was dominated by ceramic head sculptures from the Japanese artist, three dimensional representations of his instantly recognizable anime-inspired portraits.
