Showing: Dan Bergeron aka Faux Reel @ Show & Tell Gallery

Dan Bergeron (aka Faux Reel) has a cool show at Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery. The ever clever street artist created a body of work utilizing the distressed surface of the street and integrates them with the charm & familiarity of the human face. Preview: Damien Hirst – “The Souls” @ Paul Stolper Gallery

It’s become more than apparent now that Damien Hirst has  a thing for the fragile beauty of butterflies.  They will completely take over his next show “The Souls”, which will feature 120 vibrant foilblock butterfly prints.  The exhibition in total is made up of 4 butterflies, in 80 different colourways, each one in an edition of 15 and rumored to cost £3,000 each.  Flutter over to Paul Stolper Gallery starting Oct 7 to check them out. Openings: Dirk Skreber – “New Works” @ Blum & Poe

Long-time Blum & Poe artist Dirk Skreber makes his long-awaited return to the distinguished Los Angeles gallery.  This is his fourth solo exhibition at the Culver City institution.  The show features portraits of models created with foam tape laid above panels rolled with varnish, polyurethane, watercolor, enamel, spray paint, fluorescent paint and primer.  The artist burns or tears away the foam to reveal each image.  Conspicuously absent in the paintings is oil paint or any kind of brushwork, giving the works a sense of psychological […]

Subliminal Projects was the host venue for a joint event on Thursday, September 16th: the Los Angeles launch and signing for the book Beyond the Street, followed by the opening reception for Shepard Fairey’s Printed Matters exhibition (covered). Showing: Matthew Feyld “Untitled 1 & 2” at Krets and Neon, Sweden

AM recently brought you a glimpse of Matthew Feyld’s installation coming together at his two concurrent solo shows in Sweden at Krets and Neon.  It was following his period of residency during August and the beginning of this month at the galleries.  Both shows have since opened, and as we suggested may happen, Feyld was let loose to assemble a large freestanding installation at Neon. Supakitch & Koralie mural @ Varldskultur Museum, Gothenburg

AM friends and super French art duo Supakitch and Koralie were recently in Gothenburg, Sweden, for the set-up and opening of “Kimono Fusion,” an exhibition of Japanese fashion mixed with pop, street and graffiti culture at the Varldskultur (World Culture) Museum. In addition to having work in the show, the two spent a few days creating an amazing mural, documented in the video above. One of the finest galleries in Los Angeles, Regen Projects, recently opened a show of “New Paintings” by Lari Pittman. The vibrant, bright, vivid, and colorful paintings include a mixture of abstraction and figuration, each one intricate and expertly painted.  The works feature a dichotomy of “renewal/decay, secular/sacred, decorative/grotesque, hot/cold, sweet/toxic, taste/kitsch, mannered/unpredictable, transparency/opacity”.  Check out the show for yourself before it goes down Oct. 23.
