Openings: Dalek – “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason” @ Hurley )( SPACE

AM attended the opening of  James “Dalek” Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show, “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason”, at the Hurley Space. The unique twist to this show was the interactive opportunity for fans to “compose” their own piece of Dalek art. Sold at $200 dollars a square feet, fans selected from either a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 feet section from the massive 37 foot canvas mural (previewed). Teaser: Nathan Ota – “An Unforseen Homecoming” @ La Luz de Jesus

LA-based painter and respected instructor at Otis, Nathan Ota, will be opening his new solo show at the venerable La Luz de Jesus Gallery in September. “An Unforseen Homecoming” will include his signature creatures of the forest, hybrids of wood and other more familiar forms but perhaps with a new palette judging from this teaser pic. Showing: Escif – “Contra La Pared” @ Montana Gallery

Spanish street artist Escif recently opened his solo show “Contra la Pared” or “Up Against the Wall” in his native country. The exhibition, held at Montana Gallery in Barcelona, re-emphasized his love for the imagery of walls, barriers, ladders, and his signature characters running around creating mayhem. Openings: Retna Installation @ Rivera & Rivera

For the final exhibition in Rivera & Rivera’s South Park location, internationally-acclaimed, Los Angeles-based graffiti star Retna unveiled a ground to ceiling installation featuring his signature text-styled skills. The black and white work combined spray paint and fabric and covered the floor and 25-ft. high walls from top to bottom. The immersive work is a complete visual experience and takes you deep inside the artist’s universe. Teaser / Releases: Alex Gross – “Discrepancies” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Signings: David Choe @ SFMOMA

Last week AM visited the SFMOMA to catch the signing of David Choe’s (featured) monograph  (previewed) from Chronicle Books. The crowd of fans waited patiently to get some face time with the accomplished artist. David, as usual, took his time greet his loyal Bay Area followers and for a lucky few, even created mini sketches in their books. Check it out after the jump.

Preview: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night, August 7th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting “Love Conquers All”, a group show supporting the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) struggle with 20% of the proceeds donated to Equality California. Fame Fest ’10: Word to Mother

When we referred to a look at Word to Mother (interviewed) studio several days ago, we mentioned he was in Italy working on his efforts for the Fame Festival. Well, here is a look now at the murals he put up while in Grottaglie. He also found time to work on an installation for the gallery show and some hand finished (with watercolor) screenprints. Preview: Naoto Hattori – “Super Bionics” @ Copro Gallery

Master of trippy visuals, Naoto Hattori, will be bringing his mind-bending imagery to Santa Monica this weekend for his latest solo show at Copro Gallery. Entitled “Super Bionics”, the show will be sure to feature his signature mutated animal hybrids, his hauntingly grotesque women, and paintings that celebrate the beauty of psychedelia.
