Releases: Nick Walker – Moscow TMA print

Remember when we told you about the Nick Walker (interviewed) TMA – “The Empire’s State” release in January?  Looks like another TMA (The Morning After) print may be available soon, this time Moscow.  Believed to be possibly the last image to be released in this series, Nick has also posted a mysterious countdown timer on his site (28 days left as of now).  Countdown to the print release, to a new show?  Stay tuned… Discuss Nick Walker here.

Openings: Ray Caesar @ Art London

AM stopped by Richard Goodall’s booth at the Art London fair a couple weekends ago to check out the work of Ray Caesar. As we previously mentioned, Caesar was showing both new and old works, all demonstrating his imaginative prowess and skill at creating images that aren’t easily forgotten.  Eschewing the more classical artistic techniques, he proves that the sometimes even more time-consuming digital works can be just as riveting if done properly. More images after the jump….

Video / Preview: Damien Hirst – “The Blue Paintings” @ The Wallace Collection

Telegraph recently sat down with Damien Hirst for an interview about his show “The Blue Paintings” (teased) at The Wallace Collection opening tomorrow.  Featuring 25 paintings (all hand done by Hirst), he appears to be opening a new chapter in his career.  With style reminiscent of his idol Francis Bacon, the works still include classic Hirst imagery like the shark jaws, butterflies, dots, and skulls.  It remains to be seen whether he will be as successful with this artistic change of direction.  Check out the […]

Showing: Hideaki Kawashima and Atsushi Fukui @ Michael Ku Gallery, Taipei

Earlier this month, the Michael Ku Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan, opened “Convolvulus,” a two-person exhibition featuring two of Japan’s rising art stars, Hideaki Kawashima and Atsushi Fukui. Convolvulus is a species of flowering plant, although it’s not clear how that relates to Kawashima and Fukui. Perhaps it has something to do with the ethereal beauty of these two artists’ works. Regardless, the artists are well-suited to show together, as they both typically portray dreamlike or otherworldly images: Kawashima with his disembodied heads with flowing hair […]

Openings: Waleska Nomura – “Moving On” @ The Brick Lane Gallery

Adam Neate (interviewed), who is currently showing at Elms Lester, was not the only member of the Neate family with an exhibition in London recently.  His wife, Walseka Nomura, originally a Sao Paulo graffiti artist (now based in London), also was showcasing her “Moving On” body of work at The Brick Lane Gallery for about a week.  Take a look at the images after the jump…

Judith Supine’s Studio – Another Look

Judith Supine’s studio must be a popular destination as we have seen pics from visits before (here and here). It’s pretty amazing what this master of collage is able to do with all the chaotic bits of images he saves or creates. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see some street pieces and/or a solo from him in Los Angeles soon. More images after the jump.

Video: Andy Warhol – The Last Decade @ the Milwaukee Art Museum.

The Milwaukee Art Museum is currently showing “Warhol’s Last Decade”, an appropriately named exhibition showcasing Andy Warhol’s later work. Known as the most experimental and risky work of his career, he introduced abstraction into his work with series such as “Oxidation Paintings, Shadows, Yarn, Rorschachs, Camouflage; produced his signature “fright wig” self-portraits; and revealed his Catholicism in Black and White Ads and the ambitious series based on Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper.” During this late period, Warhol was influenced greatly by his collaboration with […]

Studio Visits: Nate Frizzell

After hanging out with Nate Frizzell at Baby Tattooville, AM stopped by his studio last week to check out the progress for his show opening this weekend. Nate showed us some of the paintings and drawings for “Lost in the Thicket” opening at LeBasse Projects this Saturday, October 17th as well as hinted of a special installation that he will be working on for the show. We walked away impressed by the amount of detail and thought he put behind this new cohesive body of […]

Update: Lori Earley – “Laments and Lullabies” @ Opera Gallery (London)

A pretty big show that is sneaking up on us opens this Friday, October 16th in London at the Opera Gallery.  Lori Earley has been working on this show “Laments and Lullabies” for about two years now and we can’t wait to see the new body of work.  Here is a new image “Ms. Pemberton” that Lori sent us to share with our readers.  We’ll have more coverage to follow but for now check out another image after jump (the same that we teased you […]

Auctions: Sekoto Painting Sets Record for the South African Artist at Auction

There occasionally is some good news to come out of the down art market in this global recession.  On October 6, Sotheby’s hosted their Impressionist and Modern Art sale, which included Russian and Latin American Art.  Sotheby’s also snuck in this piece by South African artist Gerard Sekoto, a self-taught painter.  The 20×24″ oil on canvas (1945-1947) painting was estimated to sell between $100,000-150,000.  It smashed that estimate to hammer at $542,500 (inclusive of buyer’s premium). More after the jump…
