Update: Swoon (London & New Orleans)

It looks like Swoon (interviewed) is in London at the moment judging from this piece seen on the streets by the good people at Hooked Blog. The wheatpasted image is modeled after the stunning Thalassa installation she created for the New Orleans Museum of Art back in June and is a marker for her upcoming show at Black Rat Projects next month. Studio Visits: JR – “Encrages” @ Galerie Perrotin

In anticipation of his solo exhibition at Galerie Perrotin on November 19th, AM recently stopped by JR’s New York studio. The show entitled Encrages will take over both floors of Emmanuel Perrotin’s beautiful flagship space. The TED prize winning photographer is going to need it as this giant exhibition will bring together many of JR’s past projects including Women are Heroes and Wrinkles in the City. Streets / Preview: D*Face & RETNA – “Behind the Berlin Wall” @ Wende Museum

Later this afternoon, around 3pm, the Wende Museum in Los Angeles will be unveiling three new murals from Herakut, D*Face’s (interviewed), and RETNA (featured) painted on the side of a section of the old Berlin Wall. A couple days ago, we brought you photos of Jasmin and Falk in action doing their part and now, we can show you what D and Retna decided to impart on their segments of the historic barrier. Videos / Preview: Mars-1 – “Everything Under The Sun” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Tonight in San Francisco, Mars-1′s (featured) will be taking over the temporary Fecal Face Dot Gallery’s space (248 Clement St. @4th Ave) with a new collection of organic paintings as well as a installation of his intriguing sculptural work collectively entitled Everything Under The Sun. As you can see from the video above by Colin Day, some of the pieces are quite large and stepping into the gallery tonight will be like entering another dimension filled with alien worlds and life. Previews: Femke Hiemstra – “The Timid Cabbage” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, November 11th, Seattle’s Roq La Rue plays host to a new exhibition from Dutch painter Femke Hiemstra. She just showed in LA in July in a three-person show and this time will be showing alongside Ryan Heshka (just like in 2010) with a series of 11 drawings based on the poem The Timid Cabbage by Charles Krafft. Each drawing goes with a stanza, and that stanza is written on the surrounding mat by Femke. More preview images after the jump…

Preview: Marco Mazzoni – “Xtsy” @ Gallery B15

Tonight (November 10th) in Copenhagen, Marco Mazzoni will be introducing a whole new body of work entitled Xtsy at Gallery B15. Showing his proficiency with colored pencils, the Italian artist has continued to explore his form of faceless portraiture with a series of vibrant works that feature a melding of human and natural world. This Saturday, Augustine Kofie will be opening a solo exhibition, Circulatory System, at White Walls Gallery in San Francisco. The title is a play on words describing a new body of work that focuses on circular shapes in an interconnected system, much like an engine or a network of intersecting highways. Preview: Travis Louie – “Curious Pets” @ Merry Karnowsky

This Saturday, November 12th, the Merry Karnowsky will play host to Travis Louie (interviewed) and his distinctive portraiture as well as his Curious Pets. The NY-based painter will be expanding his series of of paintings (also see Roq La Rue show) featuring a vintage look at fantastical pets and their owners, some of whom are quite strange themselves.
