Studio Visits: David Shillinglaw

Studio visits are probably the most enjoyable things that we get to do here at AM. A little time to talk with the artist about their work, and also a chance to soak up the environment in which the work is created. David Shillinglaw’s environment is a pretty special one. His North London home and studio is situated at the top of an old brick-built warehouse / factory building and the huge loft offers more work and play space than any of the studios than […]

Tomorrow night, August 19th, Ken Garduno will be presenting a new body of work at the LeBasse Projects Chinatown location. Golden Structure features the LA-based artist’s watercolor and ink paintings where he will be exploring themes of relationships. Preview: Armsrock – “The Impossible Society” @ Vejle Museum of Art

We haven’t heard much from Armsrock (interviewed) since his light-infused showing in Vienna earlier this year. There’s a good reason for that as the Danish street artist has been focused on building an important new body of work for his show at the Vejle Museum of Art in his native country. The large soulful paintings appear to be some of his best to date and we look forward to seeing the full results of his hard work come the September 3rd opening of The Impossible Society. […]

Preview: Tauba Auerbach – “A Book Is Not An X” @ Glen Horowitz Booksellers (East Hampton)

This evening out on the tip of Long Island, Tauba Auerbach will be unveiling a new body of experimental work at the Glen Horowitz Bookseller’s East Hampton space. Hosted by owner John McWhinnie and curated by Jeremy Sanders from 6 Decades Books, A Book Is Not An X continues Auerbach’s insatiable appetite for the methodical and mathematical. Through a series of six “books”, essentially sculptures that deconstruct and recontectualize the book as it’s conventional perceived into a wholly unique aesthetic form (in a similar, yet […]

This Saturday night, August 13th at the Copro Gallery, Rob Sato will be opening his newest solo entitled The Open End. It seems the year that has elapsed since the talented painter showed at the same Santa Monica gallery has only served to sharpen his technique and exquisite touch. Each surreal scene he renders is packed with detail so make sure you are there to examine each work in person. More preview images after the jump…

Familiar regulars such as Nicoletta Ceccoli, Travis Louie, Martin Wittfooth, Ana Bagayan, Brian Despain, Dan May, Shag, Andy Kehoe, and some other talent new to AM will be painting their versions of the mythical creature. Judging from the piece above, there will be some spanking and other punishments in Seattle when this Friday, August 12th rolls around. More preview […]
