Preview: Oliver Vernon – “Sprung” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

In his second solo exhibition with Joshua Liner Gallery, Oliver Vernon will yet again seek to take art goers on a visceral journey with his unique artistic vision, where the laws of gravity don’t exist, and time and space are warped into a lucid whirlwind of color and movement. Opening this Thursday, April 14th, Sprung continues the signature psychedelic imagery exhibited during his first showing at the NYC gallery, Unexpected Occurrences (covered), yet this time draws upon a new bounty of inspiration provided by the […]

Preview: Souther Salazar – “You Come Too” @ Jonathan LeVine

This Saturday night at Jonathan LeVine Gallery, Souther Salazar returns almost two years after his last solo there (covered) with a new deeply personal body work entitled You Come Too. Not only his family inspired, given advice, and/or helped with these new pieces (details on his blog), but it sounds like he has drawn on some recent life experiences to put together the imagery for the show.  Along with his whimsical paintings, expect to see some intricate installation pieces as well as more of air […]

Preview: “Martha Cooper : Remix” @ Carmichael Gallery

We have a big art night tonight in Culver City and one of the trifecta of shows is opening at the Carmichael Gallery. Seminal street art and graf photographer, Martha Cooper (interviewed), will be in town with an exhibition (Martha Cooper : Remix) she curated where artists were asked to reinterpret one of her many famous photographs.  Martha was gracious enough to send over several snaps she took of artists holding their piece side by side with their source of inspiration. Take a full look […]

Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Pneumatic” @ Roq La Rue

Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages. These insanely intricate works should juxtapose nicely against the soft, eerie collection of paintings from Travis Louie (featured), entitled The Creature […]

Preview: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, up in Seattle, The Creature Show will be opening up at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Some of Travis Louie’s (featured) famous vintage portraiture will be on display, and  this time of his Victorian-age characters and their unusual pets (although it looks like some creatures are going solo). AM really likes the detail in this new collection of paintings with more full-body perspectives and is looking forward to seeing it on the walls. More preview images after the jump…

Previews: ‘Family Shirt’ @ Krets, Malmö. Curated by Matthew Feyld

Matthew Feyld seems to be a regular on flights between Canada and Sweden of late. The exhibition opens on April 9th, and is to feature a selection of Canadian artists across the mediums of painting, drawing, sculpture and sound. Feyld’s work is featured alongside The Royal Art […]

Following up on the fun and success of last year’s Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wes Anderson (covered), our friends at Spoke Art will continue to marry their love of iconic filmmakers with clever group shows, this time pitting cult heroes Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers against one another in a battle-royale style art throwdown. Opening Thursday, April 7th at Bold Hype Gallery, Quentin vs. Coen will serve as the first installment of their “versus” series, incorporating over 100 artists from the New Contemporary […]

Studio Visits: D*Face

D*Face is currently putting the final touches to a whole new body of work for his US West Coast debut solo show Going Nowhere Fast opening on April 9th at Corey Helford Gallery’s Culver City spot. AM has been anticipating what Face would come up with for this show, as he always turns up the heat for solo exhibitions and brings in new themes. We went along to his studio recently to see how the work was coming together and grabbed a few shots of […]
