Releases: Amy Sol – “Water Dragon” Print

Amy Sol (interviewed), who has a Los Angeles solo coming up in March, is also releasing a new print appropriately in this new year of the dragon. The image, Water Dragon, is from a piece she did for the the New Moon group exhibition early last year and will be reincarnated as a limited edition giclee (edition 50) scheduled for release tomorrow, January 28th, at 2pm pacific time in her online store. For the Planet of the Apes fans out there, Mondo will be releasing a series of posters created with this classic movie franchise in mind. Artists tapped to participate include Martin Ansin, Ken Taylor, Rich Kelly, Phantom City Creative and Florian Bertmer. The release (as a set) will happen online at a random time today, January 26th and individually on January 27th. Releases: Kaws – “Partners” Figure

KAWS fans out there will be pleased to know that the next figure from the street turned contemporary artist has dropped. Partners features a sculpt of the artist standing next to his companion figure. If this looks familiar, it’s because you probably have seen the statue at Disneyland featuring Walt Disney standing next to Mickey Mouse although not cringing like in this version. Releases: Chet Zar – “The Dead Pope” Bronze

Although there have been resin versions released previously, this newest iteration of Chet Zar (interviewed) limited edition sculpture, The Dead Pope, is in bronze. Fans of the LA-based artist’s macabre style will definitely be interested to know that the sculpt will be available this weekend at the Conjoined II show (more on this later and check out the Conjoined I here) at Copro Gallery this Saturday night, January 21st. The long awaited first book from provocative oil painter Michael Hussar entitled White: A Decade is finally ready for release. The edition is published by Baby Tattoo Books, the same people behind the annual artist – fan retreat Baby Tattooville where Hussar has hosted the late night festivities dubbed Wunderland. Releases: Shepard Fairey – “Occupy Protester” Print

At a random time in the morning (PST) on January 12th, the now familiar cover image for TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year issue from Shepard Fairey (featured) will go on sale at his webstore. The screenprint entitled Occupy Protester will be sized at 18″ x 24″, come in an edition of 450, and cost $60 with all proceeds going to Occupy Wall Street. The limited edition piece will be signed by both Fairey and Sarah Mason, whose picture was used for the image. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Releases: Rachell Sumpter – “Old Friend” Print @ Tiny Showcase

Washington-based painter, Rachell Sumpter, has recently released a new print through Tiny Showcase. This vibrant image is entitled Old Friend and will be a 10″ x 10″ reproduction priced at only $25. Rachell has chosen Waking the Village as her artwork’s charity with $250 dollars from the sales will be donated to the organization. Discuss Rachell Sumpter.

Releases: David Flores – “Deathead”

Not only has David Flores been busy in the streets and in the gallery, he has also been working on a new figure entitled Deathead. The 10″ tall reinterpretation of Mickey melded with Totenkopf symbol utilized by the Prussian army during the time of Frederick the Great will be produced by Bic Plastics and reportedly come in five colorways. We recently got wind of a new print release from Mars-1 when we spied this photo of the process last week. The limited editions were created for the recent Ween New Year’s Eve concert in Denver and came in several variants and are based on an imagery of his more minimalistic work, most recently seen in his show in San Francisco (covered). Tomorrow, December 16th, Mondo will be offering up two new limited editions from Olly Moss featuring imagery from the whimsical and beloved film My Neighbor Totoro from Hayao Miyazaki. The release of the 20″ x 36″ 8-color screenprints coincides with a 15-title, 25-year retrospective film marathon from Japan’s Studio Ghibli, which plays at the IFC Center in New York City from December 16th to January 12th.
