The Toaster art collective have opened a ‘pop-up’ exhibition at Jealous Gallery in London. On 21st of January, Vroom and Varossieau in Amsterdam opened a solo exhibition by Belgium street artist and urban interventionist Jaune. Gee Vaucher has recently opened an exhibition entitled Introspective at Firstsite in Colchester. This is the first major show of her art in the UK and it spans the last 50 years of the multi-disciplinary artist’s practice. South African artist Ryan Hewett (interviewed) has returned to London for a new solo show at The Unit London entitled Order featuring a new series of expressive and semi-abstract portraits. Depicted figures include himself as well as Egon Schiele, Marcel Duchamp, Lucien Freud, Samuel Beckett, and Audrey Hepburn. Last week, London’s Lazarides Rathbone opened a new solo show from Zevs entitled The Big Oil Splash. The new series of paintings (many featuring his iconic drips), monochromes and sculptures continue the French artist’s not so subtle criticism of humanity’s deleterious effects on the environment as well as our consumer-focused society. Athens’ Dio Horia gallery recently hosted Taylor McKimens in their one month long residency program where he created a whole new series of paintings that are currently on view. Swapping Paint continues his recent Stoic Youth show (covered), which also explored his take on Hellenistic art. Utilizing the figurative part of his imagery as a repeating theme, the NY-based artist focused instead on the background, colorways, patterns, and the surrounding abstract elements.
