Teaser: Neck Face – “Into Darkness” @ OHWOW (LA)

This Halloween, the City of Angles might as well be renamed the City of Demons in honor of Neck Face’s newest solo, Into Darkness. In what seems to be a perennial affair with Miami-based OHWOW, the notoriously enigmatic street artist will conjure the nightmarish iconography synonymous with the fall holiday – as well as his own art – in his trademarked sinister, satirical fashion. Just last year, the artist terrorized South Beach with his ghoulish imagery in a dramatic exhibit, comprised of works on paper […]

Frieze 2010: Mark Ryden @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

One of the other booths we will be checking out this year at the Frieze Art Fair besides Team Gallery’s (Ryan McGinley) will be Paul Kasmin’s. Can you blame us?  Look at this beautiful new piece “Awakening the Moon” from Mark Ryden, who exhibited at the New York Gallery in May. Could another show be in the works? Discuss Mark Ryden here.

Installation: MOMO “Better Than 2009″ @ Anno Domini

Here’s an exhibition we’ve been looking forward to… Conceptually astute graffiti and street artist MOMO was in residence for a week working on his installation at San Jose’s Anno Domini.  AM brings you a behind the scenes glimpse of what’s on offer for his first US solo show, playfully entitled “Better Than 2009”, which opened Friday October 1. What we love about MOMO is the daring use of color and space within his work. If you didn’t read this recent article in the New York Times […]

Teaser: Lazarides – “Hell’s Half Acre” @ The Old Vic Tunnel

Opening next Tuesday, Hell’s Half Acre, is a unique concept show organized by London-based Lazarides around the theme of Dante’s “Inferno”, interpreted as “hell” in the influential author’s Italian tongue. Fittingly hosted deep within the underground catacombs known as The Old Vic Tunnels, the impressive roster of artists – including such LAZ favorites as Vhils, Antony Micallef, Ian Francis and David Choe, just to name a few – has been tasked with interpreting the nine circles of hell as postulated within the epic 14th-century poem […]

Preview and Giveaway: “Selections from The New World” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Earlier this year, AM brought you coverage of Corey Helford Gallery’s “Art From The New World” summer exhibition at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery in the UK. It was an exciting exhibition and a rare chance for UK art lovers to meet the group of artists in one place on our side of the pond. Since the doors opened, over 60,000 visitors attended the exhibit to get a taste of the art. Now it’s time for LA to have the favor returned. A selection […]

Teaser: KAWS @ Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin (Paris)

After “Passing Through” Hong Kong in a giant way (covered), KAWS will be bringing his unique brand of pop art to Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin on November 6th. It was at Perrotin’s Miami location in 2008 where KAWS made some of his first major waves in the fine art world with the Pharrell “curated” exhibit, Saturated, showing the public for the first time some of his impressively rendered, large scale Smurfs and Spongebob themed works. Although he has shown work in a previous group exhibit at […]

It sounds like a compelling event in the name of […]

Teaser: Camille Rose Garcia – “Snow White and the Black Lagoon” @ Michael Kohn Gallery

This may seem like pretty advanced notice, but we were so enamored with Camille Rose Garcia’s last project illustrating Alice in the Wonderland that we had to let you in on this tasty piece of news. It looks like her next show has been announced for March at the Michael Kohn Gallery and this time, another popular children’s story will be the focus – Snow White. AM is looking forward to seeing the new body of work with CRG’s signature twist. Discuss Camille Rose Garcia […]
