Teaser: Korin Faught & Mia @ Corey Helford Gallery

Showing with Krista Huot (whose work we previewed yesterday) at Corey Helford this weekend will be the talented Mia (interviewed) and Korin Faught. Those attending the show will be impressed by Mia’s storytelling and all the details she packs into her paintings, framed like a scene from greek mythology or epic fantasy novel. Fans of Korin Faught point to her honest portraits of the female form and her use of lighting as aspects of her work worthy of admiration. See for yourself. More preview images […]

Teaser: “Sweet Streets II” @ Nucleus Gallery

This Saturday, Sept 11th, “Sweet Streets II” is set to open at the Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra. After a successful exhibition last year, the group show inspired by the Japanese streets makes its return with an even nicer lineup of artists including Tessar Lo, Dominique Fung, APAK, Adolie Day, Bwana Spoons, Kukula, Julie West, Mari Inukai, Stella Im Hultberg and Amy Sol. We think Amy’s work is a great match for this show as the heroines in her paintings always seem to be quite fashionable […]

Video: Poster Boy – “Gone Fishing”

The details behind this video are a little bit murky, but what we like about it is that we get to see the elusive Poster Boy or one of the members of his “collective” in action. Although we don’t especially find these particular works that impressive, seeing that razor blade in action is pretty cool. This old footage is from early 2009, when MoMA put up artwork all over a New York subway station and may or may not have hired Poster Boy to help. […]

SDCC ’10: Omi : Unmasked Party @ Bar Basic

On Thursday night, Munky King unveiled their newest product, the Omi mask, with a release party at Bar Basic in San Diego. Of more interest to us, was the live painting on larger replica masks that went down at the event featuring Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) , Joe Ledbetter, Aaron “Angry Woebots” Martin, and David Flores. Take a look at more pics from the festivities and the completed pieces after the jump…

Update: Greg Simkins

It appears one of our lucky forum members was able to recently score a rare commission from Greg “Craola” Simkins‘ (featured) featuring none other than The Count and his Sesame Street crew (well, minus Ms. Piggy and Big Bird who are apparently dead in this alternate universe). Take a look at the details after the jump including the preliminary sketches and marvel at how Greg is able to seamlessly incorporate all the famous children’s show’s imagery into the painting. Oh and if you haven’t seen […]

Update: Scott Radke

It looks like Scott Radke (interviewed) has taken time from his busy schedule recently to sculpt this new piece with his signature mix of the the whimsical yet grotesque. He also recently worked on some marionettes for the Alice in Wonderland movie as well as creating a cluster of pieces for the Thinkspace “Picks of the Harvest” show (covered) during the Culver City artwalk. More pics after the jump…
