Streets: Shepard Fairey (Charleston)

Last month, we brought you photos from Shepard Fairey’s (featured) big museum exhibition in Charleston at The Halsey. As you may have guessed from the nature of his work, he also put in time on the streets. Working with his Obey crew, he pasted up his iconic Andre the Giant as well as other familiarly treated imagery up around town. Check out more photos below as well as a video… Photo credit: Jon Furlong. Discuss Shepard Fairey here.

Painting in and around this abandoned building in Johannesburg, the South African artist created two works titled Escape and Escape This Place. Following the aggressive feel of both the song and the idea of the clip, the works show the big dog in a threatening pose, and an action image of the pitbull catching and killing a swan. Painted with watered out, dripping paint, on these beaten up and graffiti […]

Banksy’s Webby Awards Acceptance Video

Last week, the 18th annual Webby Awards named Banksy the Person of the Year in a surprise move. Of course, the elusive street artist was not on hand to accept the distinction awarded for excellence on the internet. The honor accorded Mr. B was a testimony to how well-known his art has become and how skillfully he is able to manage his online presence. This fact along with other things were mentioned tongue-in-check in an acceptance video the Bristol bomber released about his recent “art residency” in New […]
