After recently seeing some of Barry McGee’s work during Basel Week Miami (here & here), it reminded us to get an update together on some things that we have come across recently from Mr. Twist. For this week’s video Rewind, we start things off with news that starting Wednesday and running through Feb. 5, about 3,000 New York City taxis will feature a 30-second video from Ryan McGinley. The short clip, called Varuo, is gleaned from footage from the photographer and director’s video for the Icelandic band Sigur Ros (seen below) and shows a girl skipping barefoot through the streets of NYC with gold glitter streaming from her hair. Upcoming: Faile – “Les BALLETS de FAILE” @ Lincoln Center

It’s a brand new year and the Patrick’s (aka FAILE) are leading things off with a special project that’s been under wraps for quite a while. Earlier in the year when we visited Faile’s studio while they were working on their trip to Mongolia, we were excited to learn about an upcoming collaborative endeavor with the New York City Ballet, but we were asked to keep this project air tight. The time has come now to share with you information about the large-scale exhibition at the Lincoln Center that will feature the many […]

Streets: 0331c (Moscow)

We have one more piece from the streets to share with you before we close the chapter on this year’s Christmas festivities. It was -25°C in Moscow recently, but that didn’t stop 0331c and his friends from holding their own celebration of the holiday season with the creation of a graffiti Xmas tree on the side of a building. Check the video and more photos below… Photo Credit: Ekosystem.

Openings: Sarah Joncas – “Taking Over” @ Last Rites Gallery

Earlier this month, the Last Rites Gallery in New York hosted the opening reception welcoming all new works from Sarah Joncas (interviewed). Entitled Taking Over, the new paintings see her semi-autobiographical portraits embrace a darker side with dangerous creatures, eerie transformations, and morbid scenes added to her imagery, which is not surprising seeing the setting (and their penchant for the dark arts) in which they are being displayed. Check out some photos below as well as video interview… Discuss Sarah Joncas here.
