Right after the hammer, the piece from the British artist ran through what appeared to be a remotely activated shredder hidden in the unusually thick frame, leaving half of the work hanging from the bottom in strips. The elusive street artist later took to social media to claim that he added the self-destruct option in the frame in case the piece was […]

Showing: Madsaki – “French Fries with Mayo” @ Galerie Perrotin (Paris)

Last week, Galerie Perrotin opened a solo show from Madsaki entitled French Fries with Mayo, the first time the Japanese artist has exhibited in Paris. On view are mostly pieces featuring his wife as his muse and pieces from his signature Wannabe series, crude imitations done in spray paint that initially can be be seen as critiques on masterworks from art history, but in actuality are his “attempts to use laughter and humor as both distraction and therapy for his internal turmoil.” To prepared for the exhibition, he […]

Mixing both digital means of production (i.e.: his Subtractive Variability series where he applies UV inks directly onto an aluminum panel using an industrial printer) with human manipulation (moving the panel […]

Streets: El Mac (US-Mexico border)

Commissioned by the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (SRE), El Mac recently completed a mural at the US-Mexico border entitled Abuelita de Presidio (Desert Rose). The piece was painted on a ten-story high water tank in the remote border community of Presidio, Texas, facing its southern neighbor Ojinaga, Chihuahua. Visible from both countries, the portrait featuring his distinct style was based on a 62-year-old Presidio resident who runs a secondhand shop just a stone’s throw from the International Port of Entry who was originally from Mexico. The Los Angeles-based artist further explains – […]
