POW! WOW! Long Beach finished up the public art for 2018 at the end of last month with another series of great murals and installations for fans of art in the Southern California city. Felice Varini Carcassonne Installation

Visible from May to September 2018, Felice Varini’s latest project is a striking installation at the medieval fortress of Carcassonne in Southern France. Spread on the west front of the city fortifications, 15 yellow circles (composed of temporary thin aluminium strips) all come together perfectly in the field of vision when standing facing one of the gates and is characteristic of the Swiss artist’s geometric perspective-localized paintings. Over the last week or so, Parra started to reveal some new collaborations with Nike including his take on the Zoom Spiridon, & Air Max 1 (including a Friends and Family edition with the lateral swoosh removed and a matching tracksuit). Although it’s still a couple months in the future, Daniel Arsham has been teasing his upcoming show opening on September 8th at Perrotin’s New York location with photos of a DeLorean reimagined with his “Future Archeology” motif in mind. Entitled 3018, the name of the upcoming exhibition certainly references the NYC-based artist’s longstanding practice of creating objects common in our time in a manner that he envisions will be discovered by archeologists in the future. Lining the 20 kilometre path of the De Stijl Cycle Route in central Netherlands are ten new sculptures from Boris Tellegen aka Delta. As part of the $620 million “Dust to Gold” renovation at the Palms Casino Resort, an impressive collection ranging from blue-chip works to street art murals was acquired, commissioned, and deployed throughout the hotel. Tomorrow (May 24th) in Hong Kong’s Gagosian outpost, Alex Israel will be opening his exhibition entitled New Waves. For his first solo in the Chinese city-state, he is taking a truly multi-media approach to presenting work inspired by surfer culture and growing up in the sunny metropolis of Los Angeles.
