Video: The London Police – “Brothers in Arms” Preview

AM stopped by Carmichael Gallery on Friday to check in on Chaz and Bob (The London Police) and their newest show “Brothers in Arms” (teased). We were surprise to see them handcuffed together as they went about finishing up their paintings and setting up their show (some of their best work to date by the way).  Suffice it to say that it will make it interesting in the days leading up to the opening next Thursday night.  We’ll have more on our little visit later […]

Preview/Video: Edwin Ushiro – “Softly Encompassing the Womb” @ LeBasse Projects

Edwin Ushiro is making his bid for collectors to take notice on a jam-packed week of art coming up. With big shows almost everyday starting on Wednesday, an artist really has to bring his “A game” to get some love this week. Luckily, judging from what we have seen and by the trailer video by Modus Films for “Softly Encompassing the Womb,” Ushiro has done just that. With his unique blend of Hawaiian and Japanese aesthetics, his vibrant paintings are a breath of fresh air […]

Streets/Video: El Mac – “Faces of Life” @ Fifty24SF

Besides working on the body of work for his solo show at Fifty24SF (covered), El Mac also took time to throw up some street pieces around SF. Here are some videos documenting some of the process for those who are interested. Part II and Part III after the jump…

Teaser: Gregory Euclide @ David B. Smith Gallery

You may have seen some of Gregory Euclide’s wonderfully textured work recently at the “Sea No Evil” benefit. Here we have a video that gives us a first look at some of the Minnesota based artist’s body of work as he prepares for his upcoming show at David B. Smith Gallery in October. Take a look at more of his paintings with a three-dimensional twist after the jump…

Video: The Date Farmers – “Strange Fruit” @ Fifty24SF

After exhibiting recently in Amsterdam in July, The Date Farmers are bringing the heat from from Coachella to the Bay for their show at Fifty24SF on September 3rd. Here is a video teaser for their show “Strange Fruit” opening Thursday night with the artists in attendance. For over 10 years, the Mexican-American duo have brought their working class art to the masses infusing their work with their culture and traditions. We are looking forward to more of their popular paper mache sculptures and paintings on […]

Video: Aya Takano Documentary

We recently saw this short documentary on one of our favorite Japanese artists, Aya Takano.  She discusses her early influences including her childhood readings, the encouragement of Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and the um… orgasm of science fiction.  She also discusses the different reactions to her work, often depicting playful and subtly erotic young girls. Part 2 after the jump…

Video: “Pixo” Documentary about Pixacao

Recently, we saw another video about Pixacao, the distinctive form of graffiti found in Sao Paulo, Brazil that we first mentioned here. The video includes more extracts from Joao Weiner and Roberto Oliveira’s documentary “Pixo,” presented last year at The Cartier Foundation in Paris for the “Ne dans la rue” or “Born in the streets” exhibit. Check out the awesome footage (Portuguese or French optional) of the extents these free-climbing “artists” go to to get their work up. Via Upperplayground.

Video: Asbestos x Absolut Vodka

Last we heard from Dublin street artist Asbestos, he was opening his fantastic “Boxing Club” show in North Belfast. We have an update for you on a project he has been working on with Absolut, where he had the honor of remixing their iconic bottle for the Absolut Originals show (details after the jump). Check out this video documenting the fascinating process of creating 200 unique customized and hand-finished screenprints, where he continues exploring his triangular technique (good example of this was his piece for […]

Video: Ernesto Yerena – “Con O Sin”

In this new video, Obey Giant’s Ernesto Yerena explains the concept of “Con O Sin” or “With or Without.”  His subject for the piece, a member of the norteno music scene (literally “northern,” a style of Mexican music heavily driven by accordion and bajo sexto) represents the idea of “Con dinero o sin dinero hago siempre lo que quiero,” or “With money or without, I’ll always do as I please.”  Grafted together entirely from still photos, Con O Sin shows a carefree side of Ernesto, […]

Hush x Complex – Style and Design Project

Have you ever wondered how a painting or sculpture from your favorite artist would look if it was brought to life?  Well, fans of Hush (interviewed) got sort of an idea when he recently collaborated with Complex on a project where they paired four artists up with models to create “four unique fusions of style and sex appeal” for their annual Style and Design package.  Nice to see he got a little diversion after hitting up LA and SF with a couple solo shows earlier […]
