The London book launch for Gestalten’s “Beyond the Street: The 100 Leading Figures in Urban Art” took place on Friday last week at Phillips de Pury’s Victoria headquarters to a healthy crowd and with a celebratory vibe. It looks like UK street artist EINE was over in Japan for a show at Gallery 503 recently. Apparently, he had a lot of time to throw up some pieces in the street, mainly due to getting stranded because of the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland. Eine ended up painting 22 shutters and walls, though it looks like he only used the English alphabet for his fans in Tokyo… Take a look at more images after the jump.
Last weekend, Shepard Fairey (featured) held his latest solo show “May Day” at the legendary Deitch Projects in New York City and effectively shut down a small part of SoHo with the crowds he drew at the opening night festivities. Ana Bagayan should need no introduction to regular readers of AM, her stunning portraiture and contemporary figurative work being a regular feature here as her work continues to evolve with each and every new show. Entitled “Flutter”, Ana’s latest solo exhibition and her first body of work to be shown overseas, opens this weekend on Saturday 8th May at Rome’s Mondo Bizzaro Gallery. Apparently Banksy has been real busy in San Francisco as another five new stencils have been discovered (see previous six here). Combining business with pleasure, the stealthy street artist has hit up famous spots like the Fisherman’s Wharf and Alcatraz. Parisian street art pioneer Blek Le Rat has landed in San Francisco and yesterday afternoon blessed the exterior of the Tenderloin-located White Walls Gallery with a site-specific take on one of his “Beggars” stencils, similar to the works London residents may remember from ’07. His joint show with the artist Above will debut this Saturday at White Walls alongside Hush at Shooting Gallery. Street installation pictures and show preview after the jump.

On May 1st, White Walls is having a show with French street artist Blek Le Rat. One of the originators of the stencil technique for the street art movement, we are excited to see what he will bring to the good folks of SF in his latest show “Faces in the Mirror”.
