The cell phones will be displayed next to each artist’s painting with a winning design chosen at the end of the show to be put into production. Take a look at the duo in action after the jump…

Western Project kicked opened the doors on Jan 16, 2010 at their new location in Culver City on La Cienega with a group show (previewed) featuring spectacular artwork by Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) and artists Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young which runs until Feb. 20. The centerpiece of the show was a intricate signature orange large painting by MDV of the popular Mr. Monopoly character, who we all know and love from our childhood board game days. More […]

Openings: Saelee Oh – “Infinite Roots” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Saelee Oh capped off the trifecta opening alongside of Josh Keyes (covered) and Doze Green (covered) at JLG. The LA based artist filled the “gallery II” space with a multitude of mediums that cohesively brought together the theme “Infinite Roots.” Her upbeat works featuring female figures and animals floating in an organic environment interwoven with one another were fun to experience. Especially noteworthy were her hand cut paper images that expressed much via simple silhouette contrasts reminiscent of the renowned Kara Walker, another AM favorite. […]

No matter how many art fairs we see or attend, we can never get enough of tremendous amount of paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, and other art on display – buffet style. During the winter break, AM dropped by Tomokazu “Matsu” Matsuyama’s (interviewed) studio to check out his progress for his first solo with San Francisco gallery Frey Norris. For all you West Coasters, save the date because the show opens on February 4th (6pm-8pm). Keep your eyes peeled for our preview in the coming weeks. Discuss Matsu here.

Openings: Doze Green – “New Works” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Doze Green opened alongside of Josh Keyes (covered) at Jonathan Levine Gallery last weekend with some “New Works.” The new body of work showed off the artist’s gift for taking simple strokes and turning them into organic abstractions. We enjoyed the white on black gouache pieces that clearly showed his fluid and continuous line work, creating astonishing figurative images. Many of New York’s finest were in attendance at the opening including Eric White, Esao Andrews, Tara McPherson, David Ellis and too many old school street […]

Openings: “A Cry for Help” @ Thinkspace

A couple weeks ago, Thinkspace hosted “A Cry For Help,” a show that donated part of the proceeds to support Born Free USA & the Animal Protection Institute. Featuring a long list of great artists like Josie Morway (seen above), the show was partially curated by our friend Amanda aka Commandax from Erratic Phenomena. We must say after seeing the show in person that there were many unusually strong works from most of the artists that are not always seen in group shows, so definitely check […]
