Preview: Mark Dean Veca – “Cherry Pie” @ Western Projects

After an impressive showing at Jonathan LeVine in September, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) starts off 2010 with a group show. “Cherry Pie” opens on January 16th at Western Project in their new location with Justin Bower, Sush Machida Gaikotsu, Patrick Lee, Russ Meyer, and Liz Young along with MDV adding to his pop iconography library with his rendition of Mr. Monopoly. Tonight, The Simpsons will air their 450th episode and with it, the award winning and and groundbreaking show will also celebrate their 20th anniversary. To commemorate this, after the show, there will be a hour-long documentary, The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special: In 3-D! So, the flag print and political statement from Saber we first told you about here is finally ready for release. “Flag 2010” will be a 11 color Serigraph on hand-made Nepalese Cannabina Fiber with all separations hand-painted in studio at Modern Multiples (who we visited in November) by Saber. Teaser: Mike Shine @ SF MoMA

Following his recent recreations of his historic Art Shack at Art Basel Miami and the Museum of Craft and Folk Art earlier this year, Mike Shine starts off 2010 proper with yet another installation, this time at the prestigious SF MoMA.  Debuting on the eve of their 75th Anniversary Show, the “Mike Shine Show” will run from January 16th to the 17th.  Mike recently sent us a couple photos of the mural he’s working on, see the second process pic after the jump.

Preview: “Further” Group Show @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Tomorrow night, the Joshua Liner Gallery will host “Further,” a group exhibition featuring works by artists Damon Soule, David Choong Lee, MARS-1, Nome Edonna, Oliver Vernon, Robert Hardgrave and Tomokazu Matsuyama. The exhibition coincides with the release of a new book of the same name that brings together the seven artists and their varied takes on contemporary abstraction, mysticism, futurism, and surrealism.
