Basel Week Miami ’09: Faile

AM went back to Basel today to check out a few more things, one of which was the recent work that Faile has been putting together for Perry Rubenstein (seen at recent group show). A wide range and scale of work was at the booth with the focus on the new wooden block wall pieces and also the more widely seen boxes. Basel Week Miami ’09: Mark Ryden

One of the highlights of our trip to Miami was definitely seeing this new Mark Ryden piece revealed at the Paul Kasmin Gallery booth at Art Basel. The breathtaking 72″ x 48″ piece “Incarnation” seems to be a happy medium between his new minimalistic style seen at his last solo at Tomio Koyama in Japan and his older imagery.  Sold for almost 900K, it appears the market for one of the top artists in the so-called “low brow” movement is still strong. Openings: Basel Week Miami ’09 – Art Asia

Showing adjacent to the SCOPE, the Art Asia opened its doors to fair-goers exposing the Art Basel crowd to the special flavor of their region’s art. Featuring art from countries such as Korea, China, Japan, India, Cambodia, Thailand, and Taiwan, the work definitely brought some fresh ideas with its Asian flair. More images after the jump…

There are so many artists getting up at Basel Week Miami this year that it’s hard to keep up with everything. On our list today was Jeff Soto’s (interviewed) mural for Primary Flight. The almost completed piece, although different, is reminiscent of a mural he did in London during his show at StolenSpace in May. Basel Week Miami ’09: Barry McGee – Wynwood Walls Mural

After opening his epic show last month at PRISM, Barry McGee moved on to Art Basel for his next project. For his Wynwood Walls installation, McGee covered an entire building with his signature geometric patterns, left plenty of tags, trademark imagery, and threw in an overturned car as well, smoke machine and all.  AM spent some time salivating over the details on the site all the while documenting everything to share with you! Openings: Basel Week Miami ’09 – “Stages” Exhibition

AM stopped by “Stages” last night on the final leg of its journey.  One of the hottest shows of Art Basel Week opened with many of the artists in attendance including Jose Parla, KAWS, Shepard Fairey (featured), D-zine, Futura, Rossom Crowe, Os Gemeos, Tom Sachs, and Eric White (seen above with his mother – a cancer survivor). The paintings will be auctioned off to benefit LIVESTRONG and the fight against cancer. More pics after the jump…

Aaron Young was in Miami for the final stop of the Stages exhibition (more on that later) and also the “It Ain’t Fair” (covered) show at OHWOW Gallery. Releases/Studio Visits: D*Face x Modern Multiples

AM recently visited the Master Printers over at Modern Multiples studio in Los Angeles as they were printing the latest offering by UK street art superstar D*Face (interviewed). Following the success of his previous print with the acclaimed studio, “Un-American Graffiti,” D*Face came correct with this second release, appeasing fans by releasing the “Coke Riot” image from his previous Jonathan LeVine show. “Coke Riot” was released yesterday at StolenSpace in either metal or wood editions, with a paper edition of 50 soon to come.
