Last month, we took you onto the streets of Denver as we took a look at some of the pieces Shepard Fairey left in his wake as a show featuring work from him, Evan Hecox, and Jim Houser was held at the Black Book Gallery. We now have photos from that opening as art fans checked out Shep’s iconic imagery, Hecox’s textured multimedia works, and Houser’s installation-based pieces. Enjoy the full photo set below. Travis Louie for “Le Carnaval des Spectres” @ Artoyz

Take a look at these custom “Ghostly Stan” Skelve figures from Travis Louie (interviewed) that he painted for the upcoming Le Carnaval des Spectres group show at Artoyz in Paris opening on September 13th. Centered on the theme of ghosts and spirits, the exhibition will also showcase all new works from Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Louise Spayd and Teodoru Badiu bust we dare say the level of detail put forth by Travis in these customs will be one of the highlights. Along with hand-painted figures, some new toys may make their debut as well – more […]

Video: When Lucent Met Herakut…

Earlier this year, German graff duo Herakut teamed up with Lucent Dossier (covered)  to bring a unique show which was both part live painting, part acrobatic extravaganza. Many fans of both Herakut and Lucent missed out on the performance since it only played twice in front of an audience. However, here we have a short documentary directed by theonepointeight, which shows a rare behind the scenes look into the making of the show as well as the final performances. Looks can be a bit deceiving […]

Preview / Setup: Futura – “Future-Shock” @ Valmorbida (NYC)

As promised, AM visited Futura for a behind the scene’s look at upcoming his monster show in New York City. Presented in the same pop-up location in the meat-packing district at which Andy Valmorbida previously exhibited Retna, this massive body of work entitled Future-Shock is a proper homecoming for the New York graffiti legend. Something seemed a little different from our previous interactions with Mr. McGurr though. Perhaps this body of work may have driven him into another gear. Deliberation and focus were the words that […]

Studio Visit: Luke Chueh

This Friday night, art toy boutique and gallery Rotofugi will be hosting the unveiling of new works from Luke Chueh (interviewed) in a show entitled I Am Your Plaything. AM stopped by the LA-based artist’s studio (dubbed the Shedio 2.0) to check out the paintings headed out to Chicago for the opening. The work he showed us centered around his clever and often times self-deprecating humor all with plenty of inside jokes to go around for toy collectors out there – from the frustrations and joys of blind boxing to digs […]

Installation: KAWS – “COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH)” @ Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

It looks like KAWS is back in Texas for an encore after a successful showing there at the end of last year. If you remember, the Focus:KAWS exhibition was held at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in December of 2011. Now, it will be next location to host the COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH) sculpture first seen in Hong Kong, followed up by a showing at The Aldrich, then at in NY at The Standard Hotel, and finally at his museum show in Atlanta. Those in the area should take the opportunity […]

Streets: Augustine Kofie (Venice, California)

The Los Angeles-based Augustine Kofie (featured) recently headed down to work on a new mural installation at the Amplify Campus in Venice, California. The project featured a wraparound of his abstract urban aesthetic on the building, leaving a fresh public art spot for people in the area to admire. Photo credit: Todd Mazer (via Graffuturism).
