Stroke.03 Art Fair – Chor Boogie, Best Ever, Roa, and Alexandros Vasmoulakis

We’ve been receiving some pictures recently from artists who participated in this year’s Stroke Art Fair in Berlin or Stroke.03, so we thought we’d write something up. We won’t focus on the fair itself but just the associated murals. Perhaps the most famous one from this year was the piece seen above by Chor Boogie painted on a piece of the Berlin Wall that amazingly sold for €500,000 (read the whole story here). Other notable murals included pieces from Best Ever, Roa, and Alexandros Vasmoulakis […]

Releases: “Trespass: A History Of Uncommissioned Urban Art”

Recently, AM attended the VIP preview of Tachen’s latest art book: Trespass: A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art. Written by Carlo McCormick, curated by our friends Marc & Sara Schiller at the Wooster Collective, and edited by Ethel Seno, this behemoth houses tons of pictures documenting graffiti and other forms of unsanctioned art all around the globe. It features works from 150 artists including AM favorites such as Keith Haring, Banksy, Shepard Fairey, Os Gemeos, Faile, Ron English and Blu. From the moments the doors opened, there was […]

Teaser: Faile – “Bedtime Stories” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery

Next month, after making their debut in a earlier group show with Perry Rubenstein, FAILE will be presenting their solo show “Bedtime Stories” at the New York gallery. Needless to say, this is a significant show for the Patricks and the movement in general so we will be keeping an eye on this. We’ll have more to follow soon, but for now, check out the new prayer wheel they installed in Brooklyn after the jump…

Teaser: Thinkspace Five Year Anniversary Show

It’s not often you see three girls from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) in one painting, but it’s a special occasion. Thinkspace will be hosting their Five Year Anniversary show on November 6th, celebrating with a full roster of artists that we have come to love.  Alot has happened in the time they have been existence, including a recent move to Culver City.  We’ll have a full preview soon, but for now, check out the list of artists after the jump…

Showing: Tauba Auerbach – “The W Axis” @ Standard (Oslo)

Few artists are capable of transforming the ordinary into the transcendent quite like Tauba Auerbach. From manipulating simple letters in clever and meaningful ways to replicating the intricate patterns produced by analog TV static, or perhaps most famously reordering every letter in the Bible alphabetically into a cloth bound book of gibberish, the American artist has the uncanny ability to squeeze every last drop of value out of seemingly dull subjects, tweaking perspective ever so gently so as to bend perception in the most dramatic […]

Preview: ‘Pain(t) and Ink’ group show @ Mooch Art, Manchester

We love a little China Mike in our lives, so when AM heard that Mike will be showing in Manchester as part of a group show entitled “Pain(t) and Ink”, opening on the October 23rd, we thought we would let you know. Check out this new piece from him above that seems to be a continuation of the new style of figurative works he recently presented in New York at Bold Hype Gallery. The private view at Mooch Art opens at 6pm on Friday, October […]

Preview: Chloe Early & Amy Sol – “Birdsongs & Machine Sounds” & “Dear Milky Way” @ Corey Helford

This Saturday night in Culver City at the Corey Helford Gallery, two great artists get together to show Los Angeles what they have been hard at work on in the preceding months. UK artist Chloe Early (interviewed) brings with her “Birdsongs & Machine Sounds”, a new collection of paintings featuring her floating forms of beauty, now mixed in with instruments of war while Amy Sol (interviewed) will be bringing “Dear Milky Way”, her letter to the cosmos in the form of paintings still filled with […]

Showing: Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” at the Leake Street Tunnels

One of the most notable stops in our hectic journey through London was Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” group exhibition. The pop-up show was located in the eerie tunnels of Leake Street (AKA the Old Vic Tunnels where the Cans Festival was held). The dark catacombs were the perfect setting to host this amazing group show that featured signature works from artists such as Ian Francis, David Choe, Conor Harrington, Antony Micallef and Jonathan Yeo. One of the stand out pieces from the show was Paul […]

Cy Twombly – “Camino Real” @ Gagosian (Paris)

Already regarded as the best art gallery around, run by the most powerful figure in the art world, Gagosian Gallery opens a location in Paris and inaugurates it with an exhibition by one of the best artists alive. In what may be a sign of renewed confidence in the Paris art market (the city has had its fair share of important museum shows recently) or simply Larry Gagosian’s desire to take over the entire world one city at a time, the gallery opens in Paris […]
