Setup: Mark Jenkins – “Meaning is Overrated” & Aakash Nihalani – “On & Off (Often On)” @ Carmichael Gallery

It’s always interesting to see how street artists adapt their art to fit into a gallery setting, especially when they are so non-conventional (even for street art) like Mark Jenkins and Aakash Nihalani.  The duo will bring their “urban interventions” indoors tomorrow night at the Carmichael Gallery – Jenkins with “Meaning is Overrated” and Nihalani with “On & Off (Often On).” Take a look at more pics of the artists setting up after the jump…

Video/Teaser: Aakash Nihalani – “On & Off (Often On)” @ Carmichael Gallery

Aakash Nihalani will be bringing his unique use of colored tape as a geometric artform to the Carmichael Gallery for a joint show with Mark Jenkins on January 21st. From the sound of things, attendees of the show, entitled “On & Off (Often On)”, will be seeing something fresh and exciting from Aakash for this new body of work. We’ll have more on this later but for now, check out a recent video he did with the good people of Babelgum after the jump…

Video/Opening: Know Hope and Aakash Nihalani @ the Blk River Festival

Know Hope (interviewed) and Aakash Nihalani recently took part in Vienna’s Blk River Festival. The event, which is composed of three parts – outdoor projects, an art show, and film festival – is the city’s first festival dedicated to street art. Know Hope sent us this fantastic time lapse of a collaboration piece with Aakash alongside the waters of the Danube (known as the Black River because it originates in the Black Forest and empties into the Black Sea). After you’ve checked it out, take [...]

Openings: BOXI – “Grey Area” & Neo-Con Collective + Zeus – “Hollowood” @ Carmichael Gallery

Berlin-based stencil artist BOXI made his United States solo show debut with “Grey Area” (previewed) which opened this past Thursday at Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were captivated by BOXI’s photo-realistic work and found themselves immersed in the barren world his subjects reside in. Filled with emotion, the work is visually arresting and something that should be experienced in person if you’re in the Los Angeles area. The Neo-Con Collective and London urban artist Zeus overhauled the rear of the gallery with “Hollowood,” featuring Ellis G’s (Seen [...]

Teaser: Aakash Nihalani, Ellis G., Poster Boy (Neo-Con Collective) & Zeus @ Carmichael Gallery

Big surprises coming out of the Carmichael Gallery, who for weeks have been hinting at a “secret group show” in the rear portion of the gallery to coincide with BOXI’s debut United States solo, opening this Thursday, April 9th. The group show will feature the Neo-Con Collective, comprised of shadow chalker Ellis G. (Seen on the streets), the man of colorful geometric shapes Aakash Nihalani (Update) and ad disruptor extraordinaire Poster Boy. The collective will be joined by London urban artist Zeus, whose latest works [...]

Aakash Nihalani

Recently saw the work of New York artist Aakash Nihilani and thought his simple concept was quite fresh and interesting. His work includes tape installations on the streets as well as canvas pieces. 17 Frost and Bose Pacia hosted an event today in Williamsburg, where you could meet Nihalani and perhaps see some of his impromptu tape work. If you missed this, his show “Extended” will be showing to the public next Saturday, the 29th. The gallery is located at 17 Frost Street (between Union [...]
