Openings: “20 Pieces of Dreams” @ Giant Robot 2

A while back, before the current Post It 8 show (covered) that has taken over the walls of Giant Robot 2, a special show was put on at the gallery entitled 20 Pieces of Dreams. The group exhibition was curated by Mari Inukai and was meant to be in celebration of her daughter Sena’s 20th birthday, a coming of age event in Japanese culture. Basel Week Miami ’12: Amy Sol – “Someday Garden” @ SCOPE / Thinkspace

The last large body of work from Amy Sol (interviewed) that we witnessed was in Los Angeles earlier this year (covered). The Las Vegas-based painter has decided to present her next solo entitled Someday Garden at the Thinkspace booth / SCOPE art fair (covered) which we visited yesterday. Included are nine luminous paintings featuring here characters interacting with nature and the delicate creatures in her world. Stop by if you are in town for Basel Week Miami. Openings: “LAX / HKG” @ Above Second Gallery

Last month, the  Above Second Gallery opened their latest show featuring a guest curator (also see AM’s turn in 2011) – Thinkspace. Entitled LAX / HKG, the group exhibition featured works imported from the Los Angeles new contemporary movement including Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki (above), Brian M. Preview: “LAX / HKG” @ Above Second Gallery

This Friday night (November 16th) in Hong Kong, the Above Second Gallery will be opening their LAX / HKG group exhibition (curated by Thinkspace). Featuring a strong lineup of Amy Sol (above), Audrey Kawasaki, Brian M. Viveros, Dabs Myla, Esao Andrews, Joao Ruas, Linnea Strid, and Yosuke Ueno, the showing will sure to be well received by local fans. In addition to the originals, Audrey will also be releasing a limited edition print (glimpses of which you can see below along with some preview pics). Discuss this show here.

Tomorrow night (October 27), Giant Robot 2 in West LA will be celebrating Mari Inukai’s daughter Sena’s birthday with a exhibition from Mari and her friends. Besides something from mother and daughter, works from Amy Sol (below), Audrey Kawasaki, Edwin Ushiro (below), Elizabeth Ito, Fumi Omori, Katsuya Terada, Kent Williams, Sean Chao, Stella Im Hultberg (above), Tessar Lo, and Yoskay Yamamoto will also be on display.

A couple Saturdays ago, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City hosted the opening for Wild at Heart, a benefit show where some of the proceeds went towards Born Free USA. On Saturday night, painter Amy Sol (interviewed) unveiled works she created for Numina, her newest solo at the Corey Helford Gallery.
