Controversy Surrounding The South Park 20th Anniversary Show Censorship

Tonight, the South Park 20th Anniversary Show held in conjunction with San Diego Comic-Con unveiled works from artists asked to create works influenced by the animated series. Included here are some of the pieces painted for the exhibition, but the two first ones from Paul Insect (above) and Andrew Schoultz (directly below) were allegedly censored by the South Park Public Relations Team. We find it strange that an irreverent show that is and has embraced controversial topics in the past would decide to block works created in the […]

Streets: Andrew Schoultz // artBGC (Manila)

Andrew Schoultz recently traveled (as did Pastel) to the Philippines to participate in the LeBasse Projects curated and produced artBGC. As you can see, the mural he painted over seven days was easily his largest to date and stands over 8 stories high. The event at Bonifacio Global City is a followup to the 2015 edition, and featured other artists like Bunnie Reiss, HotxTea and Dog and Pony who were joined by local artists Kris Abrigo, Trip63, KFK Collective and Archie Oclos. The Mine, a contemporary art space based in Al Quoz (Dubai’s industrial art district) is currently showing Between The Lines (through June 8th), a group show curated by Rom Levy. Featuring works by Andrew Schoultz, Kenton Parker, RETNA, Andrew Faris, Paul Insect, BAST, eL Seed, Jenny Sharaf and Word to Mother, this showcase is the debut presentation of their work in the region for most of the artists included. This show was organized as a response to the noise of today’s overly decorative urban art scene, giving a chance for […]

Showing: Andrew Schoultz – “Age of Empire” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Age of Empire, a new solo from Andrew Schoultz opened last week at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York. The exhibition features painting and work on paper referencing patterns in history like war, natural disasters, and globalization as well as social, political, and economic crises. The detailed pieces included in the show are his instantly recognizable collage – like compositions, filled with chaotic explosions of color and imagery, and are accompanied by a site-specific installation. Schoultz further explains the installation – “Perhaps the standing pillar works under the theme that after all, […]

Previews: “Between The Lines” @ The Mine

The trend of artists and galleries introducing their work in Dubai continues with an upcoming urban contemporary group show opening at The Mine on May 11th. Curated by Rom Levy, Between The Lines will include works by Andrew Schoultz, Kenton Parker (seen above), RETNA, Andrew Faris, Paul Insect, BAST, eL Seed, Jenny Sharaf and Word to Mother. The idea of this showcase is to confront today’s overly decorative art scene and return it back to where it all began – the line. This purest and simplest form of visual expression […]

Upcoming: 2nd Annual “Ema Show” @ Hatos Bar (Tokyo)

Starting on February 13th, a show organized by Hellion Gallery will be showing in Tokyo at the Hatos Bar. It’s appropriate that the 2nd annual Ema Show will start in Japan as the concept was to have artists paint the small wooden plaques on which Shinto worshipers write their prayers or wishes. Each participant was given three of the Ema plaques, so there will be two more left for future shows at Hellion’s Portland space (April  7th) and Galerie Artistik Rezo in Paris (June 21st). The […]
