Openings: Jean-Michel Basquiat @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

To coincide with the opening of Art Basel Hong Kong (covered), the local Gagosian Gallery branch has opened up a new exhibition of Jean Michel-Basquiat’s work, a first for the former British colony. On display were multiple paintings, some large, from the late great New York-based graffiti artist, with a showing similar to the one held at the NY Gagosian earlier this year (covered). Openings: Art Basel (Hong Kong)

Yesterday saw the opening of Asia’s preeminent art fair, Art Basel Hong Kong, housed in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEC). With a strong tilt towards galleries based in the region, the fair boasted over 170 booths with a plethora of worthy art for collectors and fans to enjoy. Openings: Takashi Murakami @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

After a succesful showing for Takashi Murakami in Los Angeles at Blum & Poe (covered), the renowned Japanese artist has returned to Asia for a solo showing at Galerie Perrotin in Hong Kong. The show which opened last night includes a selection of paintings & sculptures and was timed nicely to welcome in collectors in town for Art Basel (HK edition).
