Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Swoon

Along with a large installation piece as part of The Dean Collection at SCOPE Miami and an underwater art extravaganza at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel pool, Swoon (interviewed) also presented a new mural for her fans that made it out to Basel Week Miami. Housed in the prestigious Wynwood Walls complex, the large wall will be preserved for future travelers. Take a look at more photos below… See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Basel Week Miami ’14: Pryce Lee @ Untitled. (Anonymous Gallery)

While taking in the art at the Untitled. art fair (covered) in Miami, we stopped by the booth from Mexico City’s Anonymous Gallery to check out a few works from Pryce Lee. Along with pairing an open cage with one of his “bird hitting the window” works, the artist who balances his time between New York and the UK also contributed one of his signature bullet pieces, but this time incorporating an aquarium. Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Case (Miami)

Along with a permanent mural at the prestigious Wynwood Walls complex, German street artist case (aka Andreas von Chrzanowski) also made time to paint this beautiful piece in the surrounding area. Dedicated to the courageous Tuğçe Albayrak who was beaten to death just because she tried to save two other girls from beeing molested by some thugs, the wall certainly stood out with the Maclaim crew member’s signature use of hand imagery and photorealistic spray can skills. Take a look at more detailed photos below… See all our […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Recap: Library Street Collective Group Show

While in town for Basel Week Miami, one of the exhibitions we enjoyed the most was put on by the Library Street Collective near Wynwood Walls. With a diverse list of artists involved including Revok, Shepard Fairey, Pose, Kelsey Brookes, Tristan Eaton, Smash137, Vhils, Hush, Sam Friedman, Maya Hayuk, Roids, Mad C, AJ Fosik, Cleon Peterson, Dave Kinsey, Hacer (seen above), Hense, Faith47, How & Nosm, and Swoon, fans had a chance to see a wide range of works. It looks like many of the artists contributed some prime pieces that […]

Basel Week Miami ’14: Wunderkammern @ SCOPE

With Basel Week Miami in the rear view mirror, AM will now take time to highlight some of the individual artists and booths that caught our attention. One particular gallery’s offerings that we quite enjoyed at SCOPE (covered) was from Rome’s Wunderkarmmern, especially Mark Jenkins’ (interviewed) clever sculptural work (seen above). On display were also Aakash Nihalani’s geometric musings and Dan Witz’s street based pieces. See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Mark Jenkins here. Discuss Aakash Nihalani here. Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Nychos

Nychos was another street artist that made his mark during this year’s Basel Week Miami with multiple murals. This particular project on the facade of the Miami Ad School in the Wynwood features two flamingos in the Austrian artists’ s usual dissected style, a welcome addition to the neighborhood with this long necked species being one of the most recognizable in the state. Lucky students will now be able to enjoy this new mural from The Weird Crew member along with other artists who have painted on the pink walls of their […]

Basel Week Miami ’14: Rubell Collection – Six Solo Commissioned Exhibitions

The Rubell Family Collection/Contemporary Arts Foundation is probably the most popular and well-known of the private collections in Miami. It is also one of the best and most in-depth, having been put together by Don and Mera Rubell over the course of 50 years. Opening on occasion of this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach edition, the Foundation’s first floor contains six commissioned solo exhibitions by the following artists: Will Boone, Aaron Curry, Lucy Dodd, Mark Flood, David Ostrowski, and Kaari Upson. Each artist visited the […]

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: The London Police

While attending this year’s Basel Week Miami, we also walked by a new mural painted by The London Police in the Wynwood district. The crisp linework and iconic LADS characters instantly marked the piece as painted by the famous duo and is a welcome addition to this hotbed of street art activity in Miami. Take a look at more detailed shots of the wall in the photos below… See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss The London Police here.
