Studio Visits: Yoshitomo Nara x Pace Prints @ Art HK

In anticipation for this year’s Art Hong Kong, we bring you a special studio visit to Pace Print’s Manhattan studios. For the fair opening on the 17th, Pace will be unveiling a special edition woodcut print created in collaboration with Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara. Unlike our recent trip to Pace’s Brooklyn studio with Shepard Fairey where experimental techniques were explored, this Manhattan location serves up a different set of traditional tools which were utilized by the blue chip Japanese artist. In applying a classic Ukiyo-e style technique for fine art […]

Frieze Week NYC ’12: Frieze Art Fair – “Highlights” (Part I)

After bringing you an initial walk through of the Frieze Art Fair in New York several days ago, here is another selection of photos for you to peruse. Bringing an expertise that hails from across the Atlantic, the event which first made it’s name in the UK featured a diverse selection of contemporary art as well as associated satellite fairs (more on that later). Frieze Week NYC ’12: Frieze Art Fair – First Look

There’s a new contender for the biggest baddest art fair in New York City and it hails from overseas. The UK-based Frieze recently landed in the Big Apple and has incited excitement amongst the art community as it has brung many of the top tier galleries that didn’t participate at Armory Fair earlier this Spring (not to mention attracting great concurrent satellite fairs such as Nada & Pulse). Located on the scenic Randall’s Island, Frieze brings a new way of experiencing traditional art fairs which […]

Frieze Week NYC ’12: Geoff McFetridge for COOPER COLE @ PULSE

With the Frieze Art Fair opening this weekend in New York, the PULSE Art Fair also took the opportunity to woo art collectors at the same time. Opening today, one of the booths to visit at PULSE is definitely the Toronto-based gallery Cooper Cole and new works from Geoff McFetridge. The LA-based artist will be offering up new paintings that show off his signature minimalistic wit and his interesting ability to break down images into their basic geometric components. Discuss this showing here. Discuss Geoff […]

Armory Week ’12: Scope Art Fair

One of the mainstay satellite fairs during Armory Week is the Scope Art Fair. This year’s edition rocked a new location just blocks from the main Armory Art Show (here & here) and gained some fresh galleries go along with its revamped look. As with most fairs we caught works by artists from around the globe and we also ran into a few familiar faces to go along with the infusion of new blood. Check it out after the jump.

Armory Week ’12: ADAA Art Show – First Look

The Armory Art Show (here & here) may be the flagship event of Armory Week in New York, but the most prestigious title this year goes to another. The ADAA Art Show held at the Park Avenue Armory (covered) was a smaller, but more selective fair. Like a small jewelery box, this event drew some of the top galleries from around the nation. With only 72 booths, the fair offered an intimate viewing and a distinguished list of notables such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Wayne Thiebaud, […]

Armory Week ’12: Volta Show – First Look

Continuing our Armory Week coverage we move on to Volta. This fair is the little brother to the main Armory Art Show (here & here). For Volta, selected galleries don’t exhibit various artists from their roster, instead they focus on one artist to showcase at their booth. This rule kept our head spinning to a minimum, but nonetheless the visual talent had our eyes dancing around the whole time. Check it out after the jump.

Flying Murals of Wynwood

You may remember some photos that Futura sent us that we shared with you last month painted for Art Wynwood. That large painting, along with work from Retna, How & Nosm, DAZE, and Aiko was destined to be displayed at the Miami fair last weekend above as part of the flying murals of Wynwood project over the VIP lounge area. Here are now some photos of them hung up along with some bonus looks at an installation by Ron English. Check it out after the […]
