While Matthew Palladino ended 2010 with authority, sending a full body of brilliantly executed work down to Art Basel Week with Baer Ridegeway (covered) in December, he looks primed to continue the snowball of momentum with a new batch of his bizarrely mesmerizing paintings on tap for The Armory Show in New York. Of all the booths we saw at Art Los Angeles Contemporary ’11, the one that stood out the most was Jermone Zodo Contemporary’s, which had a solo show by the prolific and outstanding Andrew Schoultz. The show was anchored by a mixed-media piece, Monument to a Whirlwind (pictured above), that measured an impressive 11 ft. by 20 ft. (it was the largest piece on paper at the entire fair). This past weekend, the second annual Art Los Angeles Contemporary took place at its newest location, The Barker Hanger. LA’s best contemporary art fair featured work by established artists such as Barry McGee, Dan Attoe, Richard Jackson, Shepard Fairey and Ryan McGinness, as well as tons of emerging ones. An art fair based on an interesting premise opened this weekend – the VIP Art Fair. As online sales have increased when compared to in-person sales at most galleries, it was only natural that a virtual art fair be the next “big idea”. To celebrate the kick-off of the L.A. Art Show and showcase the artwork of Shepard Fairey, Mear One, Shark Toof, and Chor Boogie, The Ritz-Carlton Residences at L.A. Live (in collaboration with LA ART MACHINE) hosted the Patron After Party in a two-story penthouse on the 51st floor of their exclusive and luxurious building. From January 12th-16th, Elms Lester will be showing Adam Neate’s (interviewed) work at the first ever Art Stage Singapore. New York’s highly prestigious Sikkema Jenkins & Co. had many ooohs and aahs by visitors at their Art Basel Miami Beach booth due particularly to the piece above by one of the most talked-about artists recently – Mark Bradford. The large-scale piece was one of AM’s favorites at the fair and magnificent to look at and stand in front of. The Wynwood Walls was a very unique project that brought the arts back to a worn down district of Miami.
