Basel Week Switzerland ’16 / Highlights: Art Basel (Part I)

46 years since art gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudi Bruckner and Balz Hilt of Basel created an international art fair, the world’s leading art event opened its door to the general public on the 16th of June. The fair was created with an idea to connect the world’s premier galleries and their patrons, as well as serve as a meeting point for the international art world, and this year, 280 of the world’s leading galleries are showing works from over 4,000 different artists. Ranging from modern […]

Highlights: Art16 (London)

Art16 returned to Olympia, London from 19–22 May for the fourth year of this contemporary art fair. More than 100 galleries were brought together from over 30 countries, along with not-for-profit exhibitors and commissioned-artist installations. With the founders of Art16 being the same team that launched Art Central Hong Kong, Art International Istanbul (postponed this year) and Sydney Contemporary, it was no surprise to sense a strong presence from Asian galleries. The high point and fresh discovery for AM was the stall by the Taiwanese gallery, […]

Basel Week Switzerland ’16 / Upcoming: Daniel Arsham

For Art Basel in Switzerland coming up in June, Daniel Arsham will be presenting his signature “fictional archeology” to fans and collectors in Basel with a twist. While mainly working in black and white in the past due in part to his colorblindness, the Brooklyn-based artist received specially made lenses that corrected this problem last year and has recently been experimenting with works in color. This set of basketballs were crafted out of Blue Calcite Crystal and represent how artifacts from our time might look in the […]

It doesn’t matter […]

Basel Week Miami ’15: Art Basel (Part 1)

During the start of Basel Week Miami, we gave you an early first look during the VIP session of the Art Basel Miami Beach fair. The first day (as in years past) was the proverbial “running of the bulls” for many of the world’s elite collectors as they stormed the ginormous floor of the Miami convention center in search of artwork to add to their collections. Blue-chip galleries displayed 2015’s treasures by artists such as Andy Warhol, Kaws, Alex Israel, Tal R, Alex Katz, Josh Smith, Yoshitomo Nara, Ai […]
