Streets / Recap: POW! WOW! Worcester

A couple weeks ago, POW! WOW! Worcester welcomed in artists from 8 different countries as well as locally from Massachusetts. In association with the event, there were gallery shows and other activities, but the main draw was the live painting (like in other POW! WOW! events around the world). Streets / Recap: Urban Nation // Project M/9 (Berlin)

Continuing their longstanding public arts program, Urban Nation in Berlin recently completed their ninth edition – Project M/9. Curated by JUSTKIDS and StreetArtNews, the event this time hosted Borondo (seen above), Fafi, Bicicleta Sem Freio, Askew, 1010, and Eron as they painted walls in the capital city with “Colors” as the theme. Streets: Pangeaseed – “Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans” (New Zealand) – Part II

After a look at some of the artists at work on their pieces for the Sea Walls: Murals for Oceans project sponsored by the PangeaSeed Foundation, here is a look at some select walls they painted. The muralists were invited in by the non-profit in Napier, New Zealand to create works to raise awareness for ocean environmental issues. The beautiful piece painted above was Askew (photo by Olivia Laita). Take a look at more of the walls below…                      

Basel Week Miami ’15 / Streets: Space 52 Project

After a first look last week at the Space 52 Project curated by Tristan Eaton during Basel Week Miami with a new mural from Esao Andrews featuring Bob Dylan, we now have shots of what the rest of the artists did. Each participant painted a musical icon as part of a 240 foot mural in the heart of the Wynwood Arts District including the lead Eaton (Afrika Bambaataa), Askew (Billie Holiday), Stephen Bliss (Debbie Harry), Cyrcle. Recap / Streets: Unexpected (Fort Smith)

Recently, we shared with you a mural that D*Face (interviewed) completed for the Unexpected public arts event in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Curated by Just Kids, artists Vhils, Roa (seen above), Maser, Ana Maria, Bicicleta Sem Freio and Askew were also invited in to paint walls in the former real western town’s downtown area. Showing: Askew One “Entropy” @ Inner State Gallery, Detroit

New Zealand artist Askew is currently showing at the Inner State Gallery in Detroit. For Entropy, the artist created a new coherent body of work using splatters, expressive strokes, and bright colors on a black background. Over 80 paintings of different sizes were created with acrylic and spray paint on plexi glass or glass. The images are mostly portraits and abstract explosion looking pieces done a technique that is strongly influenced by his graffiti background.
