Streets: World Roundup (Oct 13 – Jan 12)

During the winter months, we typically see a slowdown of street activity due to the colder weather. After a brief hiatus, our Streets: World Roundup feature returns with a summary of the intervening months. Leading things off is this Invader (who has a new website) piece that is seen in a new light in the wake of the tragic events that went down recently in the French artist’s home base (photo by tofz4u). Other notable walls come from ROA – Germany (source), Herakut – USA, […]

Showing: Augustine Kofie – “Taking Shape” @ Openspace

Augustine Kofie is a West Coast artist who has been a pivotal part of the Los Angeles graffiti scene since the mid 90s. But, don’t let the “graffiti moniker” allow you to draw any conclusions, as Kofie is in a class of his own. Widely known for his love for drafting, his work is anything but conventional, bending and blurring the lines between what we think we know of high and lowbrow art, as well as the art of draftsmanship. His latest solo exhibition, titled Taking Shape, is showing […]

Previews: ‘Rewire’ @ Gamma Transport Division (Edinburgh)

Art and music have long enjoyed a reciprocal relationship. Take the album cover for example. For years, musicians have found or commissioned visual artists to portray an aesthetic that resonates with the contents of the sleeve resulting in a complete aural and visual package. Gamma Proforma’s forthcoming exhibition and project Rewire flip reverses this process with a collection of artworks produced by visual artists forming the inspiration for a series of sonic interpretations of the artworks by musicians. A perfect fit for Gamma Proforma who […]

Augustine Kofie (featured) was one of the first artists to finish his mural for POW! WOW! Hawaii this year. With his artistic background having a strong connection with graffiti and painting walls, the American artist showed a lot of skills and work discipline finishing up one of the largest walls at the festival in a such short time. The result was one of his signature abstract works that includes a lot of geometrical elements, straight and perfect circular lines, as well as plays with shading, color transparency, […]
