T-minus 4 days to Baby Tattooville and as promised we bringÂ sneak peeks from three more artists that will be in attending. The first up is the crazy talented and even more imaginative Greg “Craola”Â Simkins (Interviewed). With a his finely honed skills with the brush, he continues to create beautiful paintings for one sellout show after another. These auctions are ending one by one as we speak, but don’t worry … they are putting up more for auction everyday. We like the way each artist has incorporated political logos and iconic imagery into each of their pieces. Baby Tattooville concluded yesterday with a fantastic brunch at the Mission Inn as well as passing out of the “goodie” bags (more on this later). During the first day at Jeff Soto’s studio, the artists kicked off the ART JAM. What is this “Art Jam” we speak of? Imagine a large blank canvas that Baby Tattooville artists will feverishly work on over the course of 26 hours with each artist improvising and implementing their unique style around the clock to create a collaborative painting. After an afternoon of artists alternating between sketching for attendees or working on the collaborative “Art Jam” piece, everyone headed down for the “Beyond Baby Tattooville” show at the Riverside Art Museum. We had previously previewed the show, but there was a new additional piece from each featured artist for sale at this exhibition. The session right before lunch was a panel of three artists: Dave Cooper, Brandi Milne, and Ana Bagayan. Dave did drawings of one of his famous luscious, lavacious, and occasionally obese women. Each attendee of the event was to receive one of these…there were inked drawings for sale too! (look for a future feature on these beautifully rendered drawings). Day 2 of Baby Tattooville kicked off with a presentation by Murphy Design and then moved on to a talk with Bob Dob and Joe Ledbetter about the process of art toy making.
